Where it used to have a pretty broad meaning during the Neoliberal era of someone like Reagan its really retreated to describing a specific position on the above mentioned issues.
I've avoided using it and go with Classical Liberalism (Founders) or Neo-liberalism (Basically the Reagan-Clinton spectrum... both would be considered neo-liberals).
Ask a "conservative" to describe the conservative stance on anything other than social issues and you'll probably get a pretty wide-ranging response.

This is because liberals have been as successful in turning "Conservative" into a dirty word, as Conservatives were during Reagan's time. I remember back then, even though I was much younger, how "Liberal" used to be a very dirty word, and all politicians tried desperately to avoid being tagged as one...

Many still do have the three legged stool brand.
Many have not had the strength to continue.
It is complex because, as I said, any idiot can be a liberal or a progressive. All you have to do be a victim and demand someone else take care of you.
That is why conservatives will always be a minority. It requires more than a feeling of entitlement. We have a small tent. The bigger tents tend to fill up with assorted barnyard animals. A three legged stool will not stand up if one of the legs is removed. That is the hard part. With a liberal or progressive platform, you can have half your planks rotted out and it won't matter. There is no cohesin to begin with, just victims whining and wanting to control everyone else.
Trump is not a conservative, but he is the hand we were dealt and we will play it. Waiting for a real one to come along. If yo can't control the system then at least shake it up and rock the boat.
And Trump is doing just that!

Are you seriously trying to use the Reagan Stool right now to define conservatism?!?!
Why the **** do you support Trump then...?
As one of the ardent Trump supporters on here who routinely accuses his detractors of TDS... you're making my point.
You should be calling for his removal post-haste...
Aside from social issues you don't get shit from this guy...

Bullshit...
I considered myself conservative until we swapped legs of that stool Tom refers to like moral values and fiscal sanity for owning da libz...
How many people on here, considered righties, aside from myself, SM, and the late Clocker have complained about the deficits we're running?
How many said Trump sending Air Force personnel and his VP to stay at his resorts to profit on the taxpayer dime was unethical?
Get the **** out of here... you all have sold yourself out...
But at least you "conservatives" got your culture war...
Conservatism is a social issue only philosophy... anything else it claims is just bullshit... it's more than willing to toss those things.

As Ralph has said time and time again, "you still don't get it, do you"? ..It was him or Hilary.
It's like having a choice of either Dak Prescott or Ryan Leaf at qb. I'd prefer a guy that isn't Ryan Leaf. Be thankful, there was a far worse choice out there to be had
Looking more and more like he may be around another four years given what the dems are offering. As Clayton Williams unfortunately once said "might as well just lay back and enjoy it".
You're losing it more and more with each passing week. Be realistic.

I'm sorry your life hasn't turned out the way you'd like. Keep trying. You'll get there.

Thask brought it up.
It's a social issue position.
Beyond that it holds no meaning anymore.

Establishing and protecting your countries borders against invasion of any type is NOT a social issue.
Protecting the constitution against those who wish to tear it down is NOT a social issue unless you are the one trying to tear it down.
Following the constitution through selecting Supreme Court judges is not a social issue. Though it may affect some social issues it is certainly not core to selection.

Wooosh!
You read worse than hcap does!
I told you why. There is not a conservative in the hand we got dealt. Play the hand we have - make the most of it. He is accomplishing some good thing and he is driving YOU crazy ( and just about buried hcap!) Well worth the emoluments!
Man, you have no clue how to cope if you don't get your own way, do you?
"Mommy, I want strawberry ice cream!"
"All we have is chocolate, Ely."
"Then I don't want any! Bwwwwwaaaaaaa!"

Trump isn't matching Obama deportation numbers... but he is talking a lot about the brown menace... see my comments on "straight outta the 50s."

This is funny.
This is the guy that diverts money appropriated by Congress to our troops to build a fence.
Declares a National Emergency while admitting he didn't have to because Congress wouldn't give him what he wanted.
Finally:
"I have an Article 2 where I have the right to do whatever I want as president"

Very well said!
