If the Capitals win, it makes two champion picks in a row for me. I've been with the Caps throughout the NHL playoffs, and was on the Eagles throughout the NFL playoffs.
Couldn't get a bet down on the Super Bowl, our bookie was unavailable.
Being able to bet at OTB and play horses would be fantastic.
Just hope they don't screw with the vig too much.
(I got around the 6% OTB surcharge with an ADW account with them.)

Monticello and Tioga is already allowed to take sports wagering.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...pen/670805002/
"New York already has a 2013 law on the books that allows sports betting at its four upstate casinos."
"But the law is limited, such as only allowing bets in person at the four casinos in the Catskills; Albany area; Finger Lakes and Southern Tier."
"Because of the law that allows the four casinos to have sports betting, the state Gaming Commission indicated last month it is in the process of developing regulations."

Things are moving fast today.
Betfair will partner with Meadowlands (and Tioga downs) for on-line betting.
wish it was Monmouth. But that’s the way it is.

My take is the longer you stall the more time Atlantic City has to ramp up and have the necessary equipment in place to take sports bets.

Poof and the Sweeney part of the bill is gone.
Monmouth Park now allowed to take unregulated (and untaxed) bets under current law.
More Sweeney politics.
He was afraid of the sports wagering bill held hostage by Murphy.
Jeez jersey can screw up a win and turn into a loss quickly.

Sports betting at Garden State Park
Discussed earlier in the thread- here is a more complete piece on how sports wagering at the old Garden State Park came to be

Been a long journey to sports wagering in Jersey since the voters okayed it in 2011. Lots of steps and missteps along the way.
but only two more steps to go.
racing commission okays temp regulations today
Governor okays racing commission action also today
and tomorrow is the BIG DAY. Murphy places first bet.
shoulda been Lesniak one. Christie two. Or visa versa. they were the ones to do the heavy lifting.

Christie should have made that 1st bet. Despite his attempt to kill the racing industry in NJ he opened the door for the best revenue stream one could hope for. Yes Murphy is the governor but did nothing to put this precedent setting scotus decision on the map. Politicians always take the credit for good things but blame everyone else for the bad ones!

Even though he wasn’t a supporter of racing and the casinos were Christie’s babies, I will agree he put up jersey money, hired the best lawyer for the job(Olsen) and perhaps, just perhaps saved jersey racing.

Just like the dozens of people that said sports wagering will never come to the state of New Jersey and for the last seven years I have disagreed with every one of them I strongly believe this revenue stream will make horse racing competitive in New Jersey it is not a savior by any means but a step in the right direction only horse racing can save horse racing by implementing rules and regulations that rid the sport of cheaters.
