Great announcer. Legendary voice. I liked the way he could tell a story during a game and never miss anything or break up the flow of the game. You always knew the count, the score, flowing in with the game call, kind of a unique rhythm to it. The Kirk Gibson HR in the 1988 WS immediately comes to mind. He was truly a great one. R.I.P

One of the sweetest people I have ever met. I grew up going to Chavez Ravine and listening to Vin. God Bless you Vin and enjoy the kingdom you've achieved.

Rest in piece Vin. Grew up listening to him, Dick Enberg, and Chick Hearn on my transistor radio, 120+ miles away out in the lower desert. Southern California was sure blessed with some great sports announcers.

When I was a kid in the 1960's we lived in a suburb of Los Angeles. I have fond memories of listening to Dodger baseball on my new transistor radio with an earpiece after my parents sent me to bed. Vin Scully was the best announcer in my opinion. That was during the time that Don Drysdale, Sandy Koufax, Maury Wills, Johnny Roseboro and Gil Hodges played. What a time.

I was a baseball junkie from a young age. I remember Koufax pitching and he last played when I was 5. I remember enjoying the Sunday sports page as it
had all the players batting averages and the pitchers stats.

I thought that I was the only one that did that. I had, if I remember correctly, a "crystal" radio that my parents couldn't detect. :-)
Same recollections of Drysdale, Koufax, Wills, Roseboro and Hodges. Wasn't Duke Snyder in the outfield? I remember the evening, much later, when Vin, in the middle of the game, started out with "Folks, I've had to make some difficult announcements, but none as difficult as this"... Drysdale had passed away unexpectedly. Vin & Don were an excellent broadcasting team.

I did that too, also. I remember the Dodgers playing a 16 inning game, on a school night. I think it was against the Mets. I listened to the who thing.
I have never required a lot of sleep. I had pictures of all the Dodgers on my bedroom wall. That was back in the day where players did not switch teams like they do today, a hard core fan could pretty much know the rosters of all the teams.

I had a buddy growing up, who could name the starting rosters of every major league team, including 4 starters. We read box scores in our local paper every night, and dad bought the NY papers on Sunday for the added baseball coverage. Vin's call on Gibson's WS HR brought back memories, since I watched that game with my dad, and he called the HR when Kirk swung the bat. RIP to Vin Scully.

I remember that call, wasn't there a rumor going around that Gibson had hemorrhoids and not a hamstring injury?
