Whether you liked them to be around at the end or not wouldn't you say that the 1 and the 2 were pretty likely to be on or near the lead in that one?

One strategy I kind of like is the double exacta box superfecta.

Say you have 4 contenders where the top 2 are a little better than the other 2. Instead of boxing them all, you can play it like this.

A1 A2 B1 B2
A2 A1 B1 B2

A1 A2 B2 B1
A2 A1 B2 B1

That way you are giving yourself a fairly tight ticket that matches your opinion better than boxing them, but you are still giving yourself a few ways to hit it.

I only play supers if it's a 9 horse field or more and my tickets is always something like this///. I will most times always put the chalk in the 2nd or 3rd spot. I also tend to find that in the lower class races bombs coming in that are somewhat unexpected so I will try to pick one that might be sitting on a race after a few lackluster ones.
