I'm pointing out the inaccuracies in Post #6.
In 1m races at Sar the first 1/4m is not on a straightaway, and it wasn't run in almost 25 seconds.
How is that 'justifying the decisions of the jockeys' ?
I have a feeling that the slow first 1/4m has more to do with the placement of the timing beam than jockey tactics. It's also a new distance, so maybe the riders are being a bit cautious early with the awkward move onto the main track (into a turn) right after the break. Only one of the five races at 1m have an opening 1/4m under 24 seconds, and that was Race 6 yesterday (according to Trakus. BRIS has the opening 1/4m at 24.54).
The other four races have gone like this:

fastest 1/4m at this distance so far, according to BRIS charts)
