I always thought she had her airhead moments from time to time, but now that I have been exposed to Kamala Harris she seems to be highly intelligent 24-7 and extremely well spoken. I have a feeling there are many a Democrat that deep inside feel the same way, except of course blind homer Democrats like our own Cliff Clavin.
Whatever you call that type phenomenon I have the same in a personal experience. I am 61, my aunt is a 74 year old Democrat. I followed politics since I was 7. I have always been a Republican and honestly my views haven't changed much since I voted for Reagan. I would say my only big change is being more environmentally friendly. Of course not friendly to the point of being a freaking insane climate alarmist.
There weren't any family political discussions till my mom met and soon married my step dad when I was 14 and moved to Orange County Ca. That aunt would be a frequent visitor and even when she moved south of the border after marrying husband #3 and I moved away we still saw each other at mom's once or twice a year till mom and Jack passed away within a year of each other a little shy of 20 years ago.
Anyway I still talk to my aunt once a week, she stayed married to husband #3 till he died early this year. She still crosses the border to vote. Here is the kicker, she is the same person politically as she was 40 years ago. You can actually have a reasonable political discussion with her. She does not get angry at opposing views. She believes men have penises and women vaginas. She can't stand identity politics, and sees no harm in accepting obvious racial stereotypes. I always got a kick out of asking her things like, "What does Uncle Jorge think of all these transgender issues?" The common response was he is a Mexican, what do you think he thinks?
I honestly thought 40 years ago my aunt was somewhat off her rocker. Now I wish every Democrat was like her, and actually if she was a stranger it would take me a long time of prying conversation to determine how she votes.
