Oaklawn Tough Beat
Yesterday in the Oaklawn 5th, my 27-1 shot lost a very long photo. I thought I was home at the 8th pole. I woulda cashed the dime super, 3 Pick-3's and the Pick 5. The Pick 5 paid over 3K with a 6-1, replace that with a 27-1 and what is it, 20K? A hair from my greatest day by far and I'm trying to stay on the wagon while I'm stuck home. I'm usually over this the next day but I'm having trouble concentrating. I know nobody likes tough beat stories but I am flailing.

Brutal beat!! I guess Andy Beyer said it beat that these bad beats are an inescapable part of the game, easy to say but hard to get over.

I bet it too.
Luckily I played a $3 three horse exacta box that returned $368.
Still a bad beat for me since I would've had the winner and a MUCH larger exacta.

Thanks for the reply. As silly as it sounds, I just needed a pat on the head. I don't have any race track buddies since my good friend passed away suddenly and my girlfriend "doesn't want to hear it".

Think everyone on the board has had them. The "what the f$ck" ride, nailed at the line by a closer, DQ, bad head bob. Still takes me a while, also. Get gun shy. Reading a form and the memory flashes through your head. The Maximum Security DQ, though justified, cost me a lot of money. Bricks beating my 60/1 in a head bob. Still made some $ on that one, but man! You will get back on the horse when you are ready.

Bad beat for some pick 4/5 players I would guess at tampa when that 2/5 scratched at the gate. No consolations.

Completely changed the race. For the horizontal players, you can't change your ticket so you are stuck.
Better than the race earlier in the card when they scratched the at the gate, all the other horses were loaded, and they announced the scratch and opened the gate. Bettors had no chance in that one.

I feel the pull. There is nothing like the magic of alcohol. It's upfront in the grocery stores for a reason. This week especially. It always ends much worse than anything imaginable.
If your broke, it'll make you broker.
If your lonely, it will make you lonelier.
If your mad, it will make you madder.
If your sad it will make you sadder.
This only applies to those of us with the curse. Stay sober if you can.

I had a good day at Oaklawn last Saturday thanks to Don Vito Corleone. What tough beat? Thanks, everyone.

yep nature of the game. good bounce back.
from post 1, the only part that surprises, since the lost photo finished all the sequences, is that you're guessing how much the will pays were. most players know exactly how much the picture cost em.

The race that cost me the P5 was the first race of the sequence. That's why I had to guess. It cost me $520 in that one P3. It was the only race all day where one of my "A" horses didn't win.
