Maybe I knew this at one point, but was this part of a backroom deal to get slots into Aqu a few yrs back? I don't like slots subsides, but if you're going to subsidize a gambling entity (beyond NYRA), make it Finger Lakes, not the leaches at OTB.
So....The article states the VLTs will benefit Nassau Downs OTB....But it does not state how or by which process this will occur...
That's leaving the cold cuts out of the sandwich.
This is no way to claim the "gift" is not going to ND OTB...Before I am convinced, I want to see the specifics.
Curious to know where to look for the answers.
If true, teh deal stinks.
The several OTB corps around the state should be self sustaining.
One must assume with the casino nearby to FL, the possible tolling of the bells for the track may be dusted off.
At the end of the day, is the track really worth saving?
Now that Tioga Downs will have a full casino, perhaps Jeff Gural will take some of the profits and expand Tioga to a one mile oval and install turf course. Something FL never had. This way, those horses that are of the FL caliber would simply be moved south and race there.
Just a thought.

A few weeks ago, FL canceled a Saturday card for lack of entries.
I guess conditions like this one open up the potential population of possible starters?

That juicy 7k purse will really entice them to not ship!

Was sad to see that the Jeremiah Englehart trained, Englehart, an unraced 2yo colt by Super Saver out of a Dynaformer mare, who had been working very well at Finger Lakes and NYRA, had to be euthanized after suffering a fracture while training the other day at Belmont..

Today was particularly pitiful on the chalkfest front, even for Finger Lakes. They don't even try to card competitive races.

They are limping to the finish line, just trying to get races filled regardless of competition. Not a lot of horses left at this point

I have 2 year old filly, broke the maiden there going a mile, waiting for any two turn race colts or fillies to go to try and run her once more, none of them went 1 mile colt/ filly or 3/4 filly.. Took her shoes off yesterday and will be on the farm for the winter.. Tried to get her in a race last week at Woodbine but couldn't get all the paperwork together in time ( She's a NY bred but by a Ontario sire) In hindsight I should taken a flyer on the turf with her yesterday at Big A

It's always the case at the end of the Finger Lakes

i understand it full well especially when you think you will do better going long and those races aren't going yet for you. the good thing you have going is that filly's sometimes get a lot better with rest between the 2 +3 year old years. she might come back better for you hopefully.

Yeah, she's a two turn horse all day and still very raw, she was unbroke until March of this year. Was only going to race her once more because she is getting better every week

Race 2, the horse was 10/1 over the who was 16/1, $2 EXA only paid $143.50 in a race with nine betting interests..

I woulda felt pretty shorted cashing that..
