rain forecast for Saturday in Southern California
I wonder if Santa Anita will shut down rather than run on the sloppy track.

I'm reluctant to even handicap Saturday's card. The way I understand it, they were granted 104 dates with the understanding, or maybe even a mandate, to run on just 92 of them. I'm not sure how many have been cancelled to date, but they will need to cancel roughly 1 of every 9 dates. They will probably use any excuse, and rain would be the best of them all.
9 race card slated for Saturday. 9 race cards are few and far between there these days.

Santa Anita,,,,,,,,,There is nothing to see here, keep moving.
Dilanesp, little more than a year ago you said there was NO WAY Santa Anita would close that they were making too much money. What do you think today ?

I don't think I ever said that. I think the chances of there being racing at Santa Anita 10 years from now are probably around 50-50, and the chances 30 years from now are probably around 20-80.

I'll give you 12-1 that they won't be there in 70 years.

Funny worrying about rain on the track. 30 years from now they won't have any water since the the Colorado River -- which provides water to more than 40 million people from Denver to Los Angeles -- has seen its flow dwindle by 20 percent compared to the last century-----hopefully CA is building desalination plants as we speak, and plenty of 'em.
Racing will be the least of their problems.

Santa Anita is already running the 3yos with the older horses in mdn races. Is this early or do they start this early every year? Seems early. I'm sure it's in order to fill fields if so. 126lbs older, 118 for 3 yos.

I believe Mid-February is the earliest they have done this since the 1950's or earlier.

How long before they let the mules run with them, too?

For some reason I always associated the Big Cap with the 3yos joining the older horses. The SA Handicap is open to 3yos, correct? Maybe that's the first big race that the 3yos are eligible for, and they run with them in the other races already.
Doesn't matter, it is what it is. It just seemed early to me for some reason.
