Runhappy
The massive publicity campaign goes on and on. Some of the most important races (The SA Derby and Carter come to mind) are among those named for him. There is even some kind of bonus concerning winners of MSW races. This is way beyond advertising a stallion, it is about a man whose ego knows no bounds. I would like to see a major track tell him no.

Before you go on bashing the man, look up what he did for his community after the massive storm they received a while back.

Still,if I never hear his name again, I will die happy.
He may have won all those race without drugs, but his advertising is certainly driving ME to use them!
And I could use a bottle or two of RUN HAPPY Gin about now.

Just wait until one of his foals wins his maiden race and collects the $100,000. There will be no end to the endless promotion.

Runhappy is obviously the most marketed horse in the history of our sport. Everyone certainly knows who he is.
Just suppose there was no promotion of him, no hype. Suppose he quietly went off to stud. I wonder what the difference of what he stands for now, and what he would have stood for then would have been.
All of the marketing in the world isn't going to be able to change the way his foals are going to run, except perhaps it has allowed him to breed to superior mares. All of the bonuses etc., can't make them winners if he hasn't passed on his superior sprint genes to them.
As we all now know, there is a $750,000 Runhappy yearling out there who did not meet the reserve. Would have any Runhappy brought anything near that amount without the hype? There is also an advertisement out there that touts his stamina genes - he didn't have any. He couldn't win around two turns.
I remember a horse named Trippi, who I closely consider (short of winning a Breeders Cup race) to be very similar. He could run a hole in the wind, but couldn't get two turns. Trippi won the Swale, Flamingo, Riva Ridge, Tom Fool and Vosburgh. He ran 11th in the Kentucky Derby. He was not hyped when he went to stud. Where is he now? How much does he stand for, and what have his progeny done???
I do hope that there are Runhappys that win the bonus and go on to be great race horses, BUT there is certainly no guarantee. He could well be the Green Monkey of the stallion set.

Educate me. He is sponsoring right?
If so, thank goodness someone is sinking $$ into the sport.
Ditto Wilson, Heineken, Chase, American Express and IBM for USOpen Tennis and Rolex in golf, sailing, tennis, motor sport, and equestrian tournaments.
