Saratoga 2019 What we can expect

On track attendance will shoot way up due to the shortened racing week and guarantee that there will be less rainfall then last year. Could it get any worse?

Bigger fuller fields. Once again unless the weather is a repeat of last year there will almost certainly be less scratches and more racing on the turf.

Julian Leparoux will once again make a pilgrimage to Saratoga ( for whatever odd reason) and continue to do poorly there as he does every year.

The little guy will continue to pick 4 horses in 5 horse fields and still manage to not get the winner right. LOL J/K I had to add that in.

Anyway I think Saratoga is in for a very successful summer.

I have mixed feelings about losing the regular Monday card.
I'm normally off on Mondays, so I enjoyed playing those days.

That being said, the product will likely be stronger with a 5 day race week.
Better for all those involved who have had to work 6 day weeks, too.

I always look forward to the Spa and Del Mar.
Always a treat for racing fans.

With the closing of Santa Anita the Media will shift it's focus to Del Mar and expand it's watchful eye to Saratoga.

As far as rain, it can get worse, as Noah. I don't know about attendance being up. Mondays were typically an afterthought and attendance was never that good - so all those Monday people are going to go the other days? As far as fuller fields, I'm still not convinced they won't hold more races each day, to make up for the lost Monday. When Monmouth contracted their week schedule, they ended up running more races on the other three days. you know how these horsemen are, they just want to run em, run em, run em - it pays the bills.

That said, after missing the last two years, I'm doing a three-week Airbnb next month - I'm psyched.
