Windows Mail

It simply quit working all together. Won't send or receive, goes to error 0X8000CCCOE. This has happened in the past, but only for a day or so and would return so I assumed it was a server issue. It's been down 2 weeks now and have tried several steps outlined on a Windows support site to no avail. My O/S is Windows Vista.
Any ideas out there?

Thanks DJ. I've tried those steps, but nothing seems to work. I'll contact my ISP and check there. If all else fails, I'll uninstall Windows mail and reinstall it and see what happens.

I was left with the strong impression the error you are seeing is related to configuration issues related to the network connection between you email service provider and the Windows Mail client software.

First thing to confirm with you ISP, if they are the one's supplying your email service, is the configuration data for the email server. That would be whether it is POP3 or IMAP or SMTP, what you need to configure for incoming and outgoing email communication, the type of security being used and what ports are being used. Any recent change to any of those can result in email services being interrupted. The interruption could be totally not being able to do anything related to email, or, possibly being able to send but not receive, or, the other way round.

Unfortunately my email account isn't through my ISP. The email account is through my local telephone co. So when I contact one by phone, they say the issue is with the other and to contact them. My impression is the individuals for each that I speak with know as little as I do. They appear to be scrolling through the same technical cookbook that I have.
Thanks for the help, I'll continue probing, but not for long. There are too many other email options. Windows Mail seemed the best that was free.

Which version of Windows Email are you using? I use 2012 version and for the last 2 weeks (off and on) I have been getting timeout issues regularly. It seems to be fine at night but in the early to middle part of the day, if there is a time that it stops working. Sometimes it asks me to sign it..That leads me to think it's the ISP which is Cox, but not each time.

Make sure a windows update did not occur

Check to see under installed programs etc

Ralph, I've never known a windows update to have any affect on the windows email program. Should I do a restore back to see if the problem disappears. (My problem is a box popping up asking for authentication...time out). It's happening about every 3rd or 4th time I check emails. I have to close the program a couple times then it works ok.

When I got this windows 8.1 computer, I could not get any email program to work. I finally gave up and get it off the web sites. I have RR mail and Gmail.

I set up some email accounts for a historical org on both Win 7 & 8, and despite the screen views being slightly different (and harder to locate than earlier versions of Win) the settings and options are identical.
It's very easy (and common) to miss a required setting when setting up an email account in Win email software because there are so many options in the process.

Like others here, I'm inclined to believe that Marshall's issues are NOT software issues, rather simply port and ISP issues.
I've had ISP's change their port requirements without providing notification.
Even had some solutions, where outgoing required (s) SSL and incoming works on port 110.

Also have frequent issues with my primary provider, where the connection on one (of four) email accounts simply fails repeatedly for a few hours (the failure causes the email software to lock and prevents other email accounts from functioning; unless I turn that account off temporarily).

I've eleven email accounts over four different providers. (three websites, gmail and primary provider).

RoadRunner (TWC) has done similar things. But at least they documented it on a web page so the changes could be made.
