I used to drive but both Suffolk and Beulah frequently while traveling for work. Actually, Timonium, too. Never got to stop at any of them due to timing or them being closed when I was there.
Would have loved to hit them all.

We got a lot of Suffolk shippers over the years at Finger Lakes and some riders and trainers as well. We even card a couple of stakes for Mass. breds, two this past week. So the track can "live on" when the time comes with our stakes program.

Meanwhile, Green Mountain Race Track in Vermont remains in existence, but forlornly idle - for political reasons that are best not brung up here.

Maybe classy is the wrong word. Wonderland drew crowds, and was a clean, modern attractive place for a few years.

It really was, I'm not being a homer or exaggerating. Restaurants and such.

Maybe I'm just a degenerate who still eats food that I drop on the ground.

Used to go on dates to Wonderland. You would have to call a day in advance to get good box seats. Nothing like it on a good summers night.

In my previous post, I had typed that I took dates here and they usually loved it Then I removed that because I thought.. nah, people that weren't there wouldn't get it.

I had many good times at Wonderland.

Hovdey: Suffolk rages against dying of the light

There is no Eclipse Award for resilience or persistence. But if there were, and the floor was open to nominations, the owners, trainers, jockeys, and fans of Suffolk Downs deserve to be on the short list.

Suffolk Downs developer awaits Amazon's next move in HQ2 horserace

City officials have targeted the 161-acre Suffolk Downs site in East Boston and Revere as the primary site to host Amazon’s second headquarters, should the tech giant pick Boston as its next home. But no word from Amazon means no construction has started on the site.

Before account wagering and our first big screen TV, my wife and I used to go every Saturday, get a table in the Terrace and play simulcasts. Had the same waitress, very nice lady, the food was OK, the TVs terrible. We
would see the same regulars. The hostess was a nice lady who wintered near Gulfstream.

A guy in his 40's named Joey who would come with his mother and would yell during the NY races. Usually did well. I used to see him at Saratoga on Travers day, back when they had the Siro's seminar, then the Carousel area at Saratoga, and I used to get a kick out of him going up to harangue Andy Beyer if he was the co-host about the Beyer figures. He swore by them.

Suffolk would get large crowds on Saturdays, in the Terrace, and the other restaurant, can't remember the name. On one Preakness day, Wes Welker was sitting at a table with his wife, handicapping and standing in line to wager, no one bothered him. It was fun and crazy. The simulcast on the first floor was nutty, people yelling, arguing, like one of Dante's circles of hell, but with betting on horses and no punishment except losing. I remember being there once after work watching a simulcast and having a series of programs go whizzing by my head from disgruntled patrons leaving.

They had a nice series of handicapping contests at one time. I always remember one on a winter night on a Friday, where they did tracks like Sam Houston, Mountaineer, and a few other tracks running at night. larry Collmus was one of the hosts, could barely stay awake. I remember a first time starter at some obscure track won at a big price and a number of people at the same table had him.

Good times.

Good times.
Great times. and the scene you described was replayed at racetracks daily coast to coast, just a different set of characters and names, but characters nonetheless. I really miss it.

In Home betting has destroyed that forever. The closest we get are these message boards, but not the same sitting behind a keyboard.

Not dead yet! Suffolk Downs(SSR).

Suffolk Downs claims casino conspiracy

From the lawsuit.

Page 3 , Paragraph 8
The Wynn Defendants purchased the toxic site from an entity owned jointly by associates of La Cosa Nostra

Page 12

Lightbody is widely understood to
be associated with La Cosa Nostra

Lightbody’s criminal record includes ten assault charges, three counts
of illegal weapons possession, two counts of witness intimidation, and admitted involvement in an
identity theft ring targeting immigrants.

Page 23

Chairman of the Gaming Commission, Stephen Crosby sought to deliver the death-blow to SSR by voting, and urging the other members of the Gaming Commission to likewise vote, to deny renewal ofSSR’s racing license, without basis, which would have disqualified SSR from receiving a gaming
license for failure to “maintain” its racing license.

questioned
Crosby to why he sought to deny Suffolk Downs a racing license for the first time in its history.

There's a healthy amount of National News about Suffolk Downs Lawsuit filed this week. Here's a local with deeper info.

Richard Fields is the money behind suffolk'. George Steinbrenner's son-in law for long time. Developed Casino's with Donald Trump. When they were calling Trump THE Donald, in NYC, they were calling this guy THE Richard in Atlantic City.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) announced on Thursday, Sept. 13, the investigation of Wynn Resorts and plans to begin looking at the rollout of the investigation on Sept. 27

investigators from the Enforcement Bureau (IEB) were working hard to finalize the investigation. He added that the IEB members were actually in Las Vegas last week working on the investigation.

Massachusetts Casino Chief Accused of Wynn Favoritism Resigns

Crosby has been accused of favoritism before. Sterling Suffolk Downs, operator of the racetrack that was once considered a prime site for a Boston-area casino, sued Wynn Resorts last week, alleging bias by Crosby.

The Beatles last concert ever was only about a week after that one. What a great piece of history you have in that ticket.
