Any rider that use the reins to maintain his balance is a bad rider. A good rider is always balanced without using the reins while in two point position.

There is no two point when racing, only while galloping in the morning. Race speed motion is very different than gallop motion. Horses "run" when racing and do not gallop.
You need your center of gravity behind the horse as to allow the horse to pull you out of the gate. A jock hooks a finger in the mane to break. It is somewhat like a jump motion but different as there is no way to cue/predict when the gates will pop. A horse breaks better/faster more balanced if allowed the first jump to be on his own.
After the first jump a jock gathers up and then pushes the horse on with his seat and hands still slightly behind the horses center of gravity so as to push them forward and get them engaged on the bit.
A rider does not balance with out the use of their hands for balance. The motion of the horse would throw them off. It is very very different than galloping in two point.
