My guess is that it is liberal Rawlsian "equality of outcome". There ought not be a privilege or advantage to those who make bail, vs. those who cannot.

The standard should be that those who are a danger to the community or who are a flight risk should not be allowed to wander around free, otherwise, release them on their own recognizance.

Yes, because like with gun control, criminals always obey the law...
so they will naturally always obey the "own recognizance" and return on their court hearing date...you know...like all those "migrants" who cross the border and are also released on their "own recognizance"

I wasn't agreeing, just stating the motivation.
Ideally, conservatives believe in equal opportunity within a world of unequal circumstances. Liberals believe a utopia of equality is possible by enforced egalitarianism.
