MVRC 12-26-15

Ramblings aren't always wagers.

Race 2 - #6 BRYNDIES JEWEL has proven himself a gutsy grinder locally at similar distance; TD Houghton jumps on #4 NORTHERN BRUCE a Canadian shipper that has been facing better -

Race 3 - #9 LUV ON THE ROCKS was checked on the final bend 08Dec -

Race 4 - Cluttered with tough to compare shippers:#2 DUSTY LILY was behind local legend CHELLA but in front of recent winner ROLLOVER BELLA 02Nov; she runs well fresh. #10 MI TIA has enough back class and speed to show her tail to these -

Race 5 - #6 SAMBUCCA STEVE has been keeping good company. If #1 OUR LUCKY ONE repeats that 08Dec fig from the tough one hole he is the real deal at this level; Ignoring the desperate drop by #11 BILL NACK could be costly -

Race 6 - #2 OUR EYE CANDY has been sprinting with winners. Sullivan's #4 EM ROCZ returns to sprinting -

Race 7 - #2 COULD BE GAME gets first jump on more experienced but possibly distance challenged field -

Race 8 - #12 YNOT GREY BOY has outside leverage and back class for a barn that is warming up-

Spot plays for MVRC 12-26-15:

Race 4: #6 Pommette. Comes back after a well deserved 10 week rest. Last seen at MVR in April winning 2 races in a row. #10 Mi Tia. Tries MVR for the 1st time today. Ran mostly at Indiana Grand this year. Should post some blazing early fractions from a nice outside post. #8 Blazing B. Connections not afraid to try different tracks and surfaces. Won 2 sprints in Maryland earlier in '15.

Race 5: #1 Our Lucky One. Not lucky to grab the 1 hole, but it should be a dry track today which will be a lot fairer to inside slots. Just ran a career high number. I'm putting a few shots underneath, including #10 Abra who will fly early and #7 Lily's Jackie Boy who should close late on the cut back.

Race 8: #10 Wu Doo Man. Keep an eye on the results from race 5. Good sign if my pick wins there. This one was chasing last time. This race should be full of nice prices. I also can see #6 Upon Reflection and #11 Mighty Hutch scoring at double digit odds.

Hope all had a Merry Christmas and will keep MVRC on their wish list of tracks to bet on. Going for a streak of 3 in a row $1,000,000+ handle!

Good Luck

RR

My New Years wish list in topped by a return of The Postman's hot sheet to PaceAdvantage. I do not understand MVRC's stance. As an outsider, your presence here seems like a great way to promote their product.

Anyhow, thanks so much for cotinuing your spots plays. I look forward to them daily.

I was just thinking Postman. If Mahoning ever hires and analyst guy that goes over the races on there live feed, it should be you. I notice a couple tracks do this and sometimes it is helpful.

Thanks for the kind words Gib and Unicorn. I don't want to violate any policies of MVRC or agreements made, so the spot picks are allowed, entire picks not. John McGary does a fine job analyzing and giving his picks between races on the simulcast feed. Broke the million handle streak but over 650K not bad for a Saturday with all the big boys running. Almost 50K on site as the place was packed! I believe MVRC can fill a niche with the full fields and enthusiastic patrons.

Mahoning Valley Race Course seemed to be the "in place" to take out of town family visitors in the Mahoning Valley yesterday. I've never been at such a happy race track. The over flow crowd left me out in the cold all afternoon (literally).

Side note: I find it interesting that a common complaint from racetrackers nationwide is high takeouts but nobody has any trouble shelling out $5 for a beer

I'm guessing that moving up the Saturday post times is an attempt to grab some early action before the big boys' cards kickoff? Whatever the reason, I applaud the racing department's apparent continued commitment to flexibility when it comes to improving their product and attracting wagering.

I beg to differ, but, having a few beers and spending the day handicapping go hand-in-hand. Either I stay home, which is not much fun after being couped up for 2 days, or I go to the track. Track wins in this case. And they leave no choice when it comes to beer prices.

That was a decent crowd yesterday at MVR. But, I sure was glad when the last MVR race was over and the place cleared out.

I don't see this happening at MVR. I feel fortunate that they landed John McGary. But if an opening arises in the future, I see the recent Charles Town announcer move happening again. There were much better and experienced and costly options available, and they opted for the lowest cost option over all others.

We all know how racing fits into Penn Nationals plans. It's just a tool to get to the casino money. The less spent the better.

all tongue in cheek . . . I've never quibbled over takeout or beer prices. Cigars are my primary race track guilty plea$ure.

I know what you mean. However it is nice how some tracks have there own little review and picks before each race. I can only think of a few tracks that do this. Others flash the odds until post and some play music. I dont think i have ever noticed, but do the viewers watching mahoning on stream at home get a voice over of the picks before the each race? I know at the track you can hear John.

Yes. John's pre-race comments are heard throughout the facility and the online feed. John has been a blessing for the local product. He goes out of his way to explain his comments to newcomers to the track - if they listen, they learn. He also introduces the field during the post parade of EVERY race. I don't see that happen many places. Ron will have to check in but I get the feeling that he might also make the morning line?

Anyhow, if he has his eyes on a bigger prize, he sure has a wonderful work ethic on his resume.

Yes Gib, John does indeed make the early line. There are savvy punters out there, as I've lost track of how many horses that got pounded down over half of the ML and won so far. A few have even been my top pick on the tip sheet!

And you are spot on about John helping newbies learn the game here. Every Saturday he has a 45 minute handicapping seminar, going over each of that day's races. He is patient in answering questions from the audience and takes time to interact with patrons throughout the day. Hopefully the Mountainman will be able add his knowledge at one of the upcoming seminars.
