It is tiring.

Could you ever imagine this happening in the NFL? College Football?

And nobody will care or do anything about it.

Way past the time for an American Racing Association that oversees all horse racing in America. And very visible.

An actual President, a board, and people held responsible. It is beyond past time.

Yea, I know. Will never happen.

As did I. Had a significant win bet on the Florida Oaks winner. My balance just updated.

After about two hours I realized stewing about whether or not I would get paid was messing with my ability to concentrate.

I decided to shut things down for the day, go outside, and run a few miles in the sand along the bay.

Got the heart rate up , some air in the lungs, and my batteries recharged.

Stopped to take the obligatory sunset pic (below) and headed back.

Just checked a few minutes ago.

$15.80 win mutuel credited to the account.

Gulfstream R11 tote data at my end looks like this:

Code:
1 $15.80 $8.00 $5.60
6 $7.80 $4.40
8 $5.60

$1 Exacta (1-6) Paid $67.20
$0.50 Trifecta (1-6-8) Paid $169.25
$0.10 Superfecta (1-6-8-9) Paid $419.61
* Exact 5 Carryover $4,452 *
$1 Double (2/1) Paid $48.00
$0.50 Pick 3 (5/2/1) Paid $166.50 (3OF3)
$0.50 Pick 4 (9/5/2/1) Paid $656.65 (4OF4)
$0.50 Pick 5 (3/9/5/2/1) Paid $1,144.75 (5OF5)
$0.50 Pick 5 (3/9/5/2/1) Paid $17.80 (4OF5)
$0.20 Pick 6 (1/3/9/5/2/1) Paid $4,207.94 (6OF6)
* Pick 6 Carryover $104,955 *

I think people do care.

I think there’s no money to fix anything.

A good portion of the industry is surviving on casino money. Trainers and owners are dropping like flies. Fewer horses are being bred.

The economics of the sport as currently constructed don’t work. Either a ton of new money has to come in or a ton of costs have to be taken out. The industry has to get a point where there is “free cash” to address problems. IMO that’s the only hope for a real sustainable turnaround. Right now it’s a sick patient that’s slowly deteriorating. It needs major surgery.

Joint Press Release from AmTote and Roberts Communications:

The Paulick Report | | 03-10-2024
AmTote, Roberts Communications Statement: 'Not The Result Of A Tote System Failure':
https://paulickreport.com/news/horse...system-failure

Quote:
The following is a joint statement – issued on Sunday afternoon by AmTote International, the tote system that is part of the Stronach Group's 1/ST Technology, and Roberts Communicatioons Network – concerning the disruption of betting and wagering information that affected racetracks across the United States.

AmTote/Roberts Communications: A communications network failure on March 9 resulted in wagering disruptions at numerous racetracks and guest locations operating through the Mid-Atlantic hub of AmTote International. Most notably, the Tampa Bay Derby at Tampa Bay Downs had to be run without wagering.

The issues were not the result of a tote system failure. Rather, the communications network (both primary and backup) that connects the AmTote Mid-Atlantic hub to other wagering hubs failed. Roberts Communications Network (“RCN”) provides the communications network that connects AmTote’s Mid-Atlantic hub to all other tote company wagering hubs worldwide. RCN designs and installs the communications network in a manner designed to prevent outages of this type. However, the unprecedented nature of the connectivity outage yesterday, which impacted the third-party providers from which RCN provisions bandwidth, took down both the primary and back-up networks.

“Everyone needs to stop blaming AmTote,” said Todd Roberts, President and CEO of RCN. “This was an unprecedented failure in the primary and back-up connectivity provided to RCN by our third-party suppliers.”

Report: Tampa Bay calls for investigation of tote problems:
https://www.horseracingnation.com/ne...e_problems_123

Quote:
Tampa Bay Downs will seek an investigation by an independent third party into its tote-system crash Saturday.

Peter Berube, general manager of the track, told Daily Racing Form that he has not received an explanation for the incident from AmTote, its wagering-processing partner, or from AmTote parent 1/ST racing.

He has asked the Thoroughbred Racing Association to conduct an investigation of what occurred.

“We need an independent assessment,” Berube told DRF. “This can’t happen. This was a complete meltdown. We need to know who was at fault and make sure this never happens again.”

Because of the malfunction, the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby was run without wagering. Tampa Bay Downs canceled the last race of the day, and tickets on the Tampa Bay Oaks were not redeemed until Sunday.

The outage also affected Santa Anita, Laurel Park and Gulfstream.

Just before post time for R4 at Gulfstream #8 NINETYFOUR EXPOS dropped the rider and got loose on the course.

Took the outriders about 20 minutes to round him up and take him off the course. Couldn't see what was happening on video but I'm guessing the horse was pretty spooked.

Then, after the jockeys had started remounting #9 JUST FOR LUCK also got loose and and ran off.

Both horses were announced as late scratches.

I realize shite happens.

If Gulfstream ends up running the remainder of today's Friday card 25 minutes behind schedule now you know why.

Been playing only Hong Kong for the past 2 years +. Been following it for the last 5 years or so. NEVER have I seen a horse get loose during warmups or at the gate. And they very rarely use ponies over there. Jocks warm them up and handlers have them before loading.

I think about all those years I played Woodbine and there'd be all those delays whenever they had to use the ambulance.

Or those off the turfers, especially at NYRA tracks. All those dirt biases. Why don't I see those biases on the Sha Tin dirt track. And why do the Hong Kong turf courses drain so quickly? I mean, I've seen cards during monsoon season and these courses are always usable and very rarely soft or heavy.

Let's not omit all those 3-4 horse fields.

There's a better way.

P.S. Jocks actually DRAFT over there. Even on the dirt. Think Ramon Dominguez, next time someone insists that horses don't want to run inside.

I take it you never saw an assistant starter at Sha Tin or Happy Valley decide grabbing a broom and using it to whack a horse in the hind quarters with a jockey still in the irons was a good idea?

One of the assistant starters jogged around to the front of the gate like he was about to open the stall doors so they could coax the horse in that way.

But one of the other assistant starters dashed off to the left and disappeared from view out of the camera shot.

About three seconds later he dashed back into the camera shot holding a broom.

And promptly began whacking the horse in the hindquarters with the broom while Learie Seecharan was still in the irons.

From my vantage point that did not go well...
