For those keeping score:

Today, Breeders' Cup day, over at Belmont Park it's going to be 60 degrees with a light wind and partly sunny.

So be sure to log this info for the next time the argument arises that the weather makes it prohibitive to hold a BC at Belmont.

By the way some people talk, it should be 34 degrees here with 30mph gusty winds and a threat of 3-6 inches of snow.

However, at least this way when the NY horses crushed the CA horses, they can't whine that we had a home field advantage.

West is best!

I was there in 1995 and 2001 and it sucked both times (TBF 1990 was OK). Plus, more importantly, the BC's held there didn't make as much money as the ones held in Kentucky and California, and NYRA was a PITA to work with.

Apparently they may go back to Belmont with the new grandstand. Looking forward to the crowd of 32,000 and the BC deciding to come back here where it is nicer.

Not good and they are going to lie about it. (They announced 43k and there was about 25k here yesterday. The infield is closed!)

This is a bigger issue than just the BC but after the sport's powers discovered attendance caps a decade and a half ago, they are starting to try to get more money from fewer people. That is definitely what they are trying to do here.

Guessing attendance caps are the way now. It jacks up the ticket prices making it an exclusive event. The riff raff can watch and bet at home. It keeps the smaller tracks in the Breeders Cup rotation. I don't think this is a track issue but more of what the Breeders Cup want the event to be viewed as going forward.

It's not just the BC. Saratoga and Del Mar are doing it.

I'm talking about the Breeders Cup organization. They are the ones organizing the entire event. The track is just the setting. By limiting attendance they make it a better experience for the smaller, wealthier crowd.

Correct. And just a more expensive one

Belmont can't handle a crowd

Ah memories

Even if the sport could use a huge infusion of paying customers on site.

Santa Anita Handicap day with 80,000 + people was the worst. Couldn't even move, much less place a timely (last minute) bet.

Just because some racetracks have been dumb over the years doesn't mean they should just give up. Churchill handles well over 100,000 every year. You plan for it and things will turn out fine.

This is a bad trend and it goes beyond the BC.
