Everyone is more than welcome to use this thread, intended to benefit everyone by tracking "odd" things. For example, the horse in the first post would have been a primary contender. It may well be that a softer spot was sought (the eventual winner of that race, #6, was tough to beat).
No suggestion is made of anything remotely involving chicanery or dishonesty--only that overmatching a horse that is ready to win is a recipe for misery all around. And very poor business.
Many such situations arise--horses that should have done well, but did not, for one reason or another. The reasons are not as important as that performance was noticeably different than expected. I think most on this side of the fence can distinguish when something unusual happens, and when a "watch for this one in its next race" is called for.
