2 things
1) Good confidence builder as H4C said.
2) Prairie is a good track meaning it is fast and very kind to horses. Seen quite a few horses come out of Prairie's festival and do well next out.
Captain Steve won the Iowa Derby and then Dubai
Majesticperfection won the IA sprint then the Alfred G Vanderbilt.
I am not putting Hansen in the same boat as the 2 above, but where else could he face 3 yos going 2 turns on a very speedy track. I know the Ohio Derby is next week but who has the better racing surface for Hansen, with an extra 150k to boot? Makes perfect sense.

I thought this was a nice easy spot to pick up approximately 250K without taking anything out of him and while also giving him a chance to get rolling again after the Derby.

From here they can decide if they think a better route to the BC Mile is a series of races like the King's Bishop and Kelso or whether they still want to mess around going longer and target the Haskell.

That's classic Tom. What a troll.

We've had him for quite some time now.

Exactly right.

I guess that's a good spot because the purse is huge and the race is unlikely to draw a deep field of the best 3YOs. Personally though, I think his best chance of winning a high level Grade 1 is at 7F or a mile. So I'd be aiming for something like that with the long term target the BC mile.

Iowa Derby, West Virginia Derby, Travers Stakes, Indiana Derby, Breeders Cup Classic (if does well in Travers)....and if runs table ...yes Eclipse Award again.
This is Kendall Hansen's comments following this article in the form.

IMO Hansen is not a 10F horse at this stage in his career. I think the Travers looks like a mistake unless it happens to come up weak or without much speed. I'd love to book bets on him winning the Classic. IMO he should be shooting for the BC mile.

Here's a great trivia question. Who was the last WV Derby participant to subsequently win a Grade I race around two turns? It's been a while.

Actually, spotting him carefully will NOT enhance his stud value. I'm not sure it will decrease it but it could make him less attractive.

Yes. We retooled our bonus clause (150k) to encompass grade 1 wins posted LAST year-with a horse like Hansen very much in mind.
