The Met Mile

would it not have made sense to move the Met Mile (and the Jaipur for that matter) to Aqueduct for the next 2-3 years (temporarily move it to the Fall)?

There you can actually run a one turn mile, the Wilson chute hardly was made for the Met Mile, Aqueduct could have done a whole weekend around the Met Mile - and its called the Met Mile for a reason, what does Saratoga have to do with Metropolitan anything?

also 5 1/2 T races at the Spa suck (and are frankly dangerous for jockeys, they shouldn't run any, let alone important Stakes races)

I don't understand how NYRA makes decisions (and that includes the infield tunnel, how much less expensive (and more appealing) would it have been to build a bridge instead)

Bridge idea is different, for sure. Would the shadows it throws be a concern? Horses and shadows can be a challenge. I'm thinking that may be a reason we don't see them over racetracks.

It’s all about the $. Aqueduct is getting no more handle than Belmont did on Memorial Day with the Met Mil. https://paulickreport.com/news/ray-s...ision-for-nyra

Also, there is a derby day race and with shorter rest some horses might skip the Met Mile. My Question is why doesn’t NYRA take out the hedges on the outer turf? It would make for 1 really wide Turf course a la Colonial or Laurel. It would be much safer, and allow for additional rail placements.

Drawbridge that lowers to the synthetic track only with sufficient rainfall.

I want the Met Mile on Memorial Day at Belmont. Guess what it is not going to happen. Times change. At this point Aqueduct probably has a max attendance of 10,000. Just guessing. My point being the only thing that seems to work in modern racing is event days and boutique meets.
I remember going to the track and thinking everyday was an event day. That is no longer true. At this point, why not just enjoy the game in whatever way it is conducted ? Hopefully along the way maybe improvements will be made to help the player and bring in new customers.

I get the Met Mile on Memorial Day sentiment, but a problem that nobody seems to address is that it no longer works from a timing aspect. I think you would agree that the CD Handicap, a Grade 1 at 7F on Derby Day, is a major potential feeder race for the Met, as well as ( to a lesser extent ) the Alysheba the day before. Running it even four weeks after those races is problematic in these times in ways it wasn't in years gone by. This year it would be three weeks. It just won't work. From a timing perspective, moving it helps the race.

Forgetting everything else, that's why running it on Memorial Day no longer works. Adapt or die.
