That's kind of where I was going, being the iPhone was lauched in '07.

What is the difference in % between a wager coming through a window or through an ADW to NYRA? Anyone know?

WiFi is nice but what good is it when you visit the track and need a power source and discover there are few power outlets.

Tampa Bay for instance. It is a relatively old facility that appears to have few updated accommodations, maybe or maybe not like the track mentioned in this thread. Tampa Bay touted "we now have WiFi and laptops are always welcome at Tampa Bay." Took my laptop and other hardware to the TB and tried to find a nice comfortable place to do some figurin'. I searched the complete facility and found only two outlets - one outside under the tent (had to reposition the table and bench), the other outlet near the breezeway.

Not sure how well that will work out, but it's supposed to be ok.
I think the RaceQuest tool is a good idea. The question is how can you get new players to take advantage of it.

You are right. What good is it? Do you also get mad when you hit an exacta because you should have had the tri? There are these things called spare batteries.

Lot of different ways to go.

I hope I'm not out of place as I am not an authorized advertiser, but I'd be happy to send anyone my plans for a nifty little set-up. Simply send $4 and self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Mackensterns Super Ready Rig 4000
PO Box 8675309
Zigzag, Oregon 85906
(Void where prohibited)

Good stuff Al.At least they give a hoot to do that much. Here in Ohio I can't even get a phone call to the powers that be about the future of racing in Cincinnati.I care enough to ask and I'm already on the pay no mind list.

Other than that I'm very interested in NY racing. On EST schedule my secondary track has always been NY til Ohio went into the crapper,so now NY is my main focus other than Florida winter.Keep the reports comin brutha. It's much appreciated.

It depends on the agreement the ADW has with NYRA. I do not know the specifics of any of the agreements

However, according to the January 21, 2012 Thoroughbred Times article by Frank Angst “NYRA comes out ahead in first year after OTB closure”, prior to it’s closing for every $100 wagered on a NYRA race thru NYCOTB $2.69 was paid to NYRA and $3.80 went to purses. For every $100 wagered on a NYRA race on-track or thru it NYRA Rewards ADW more then $10 goes to NYRA and $6 to purses.

It can be probably be safely assume other ADWs have agreements with similar percentage splits. The bottom line is it is much better for NYRA and the horsemen for money to bet on-track or thru NYRA Rewards than thru other bet-takers.

[QUOTE=PaceAdvantage]Because they probably realize by now that you don't need WiFi to use your notebook, tablet, or cellphone to place an online wager. You can use cellular technology for example.

Perhaps they thought by keeping WiFi off the grounds, they could prevent people placing wagers at various ADWs, etc while at the track.

Kind of like when they used to outlaw payphones at the track back in the day to curtail bookmaking operations...

I'll ask you the question I asked above...why do many casinos bar the use of laptops in their race and sports books? I am going to assume that they don't provide free WiFi either...[/QUOTE
Casinos banning laptops is becomming a thing of the past. I've used a laptop to handicap for at least 7 or 8 years now. And BTW keeneland has their tote available via Wifi so one can wager from the table. It's easy to block ADW's. As a matter of fact they block PA as a "gambling related"site.

It's been many years since I've been to Las Vegas...do they now allow you to be connected to the internet with your laptop (legally of course)?

Most do, but I think there are still a few that don't.

Thanks very much for that.

I suspect they won't get a sudden run on people coming to the track & betting via WiFi through some non-NYRA Rewards ADW. That would be my take whether it be 2007 or 2012.

They ban these items mainly to prevent cheating, like at the tables and the games that are more 'hands on'.

Cell phones are allowed on casino floor. I've never asked about internet access - guess I never thought to ask.
