Sorry you were not able to grasp two different thoughts being posted in the same thread. Next time, I will type slower.

Why don't we have a single qualifier race for the fillies? We extend the Eurobreds an olive branch to fall off of in the UAE Derby and that's a synth races full of turf horses or immortals from Wolverhampton(just kidding, sort of)!!There's should be at least 1 race for fillies run that garners the points to get in the Derby for an ambitious owner who thinks his filly has the stones and werewithal.

The problem is that if they choose to go that route the Oaks is out the door, and they have no chance to get in that race because the derby preps do not award Oaks points obviously. That's quite a big risk to take but apparently that is the price the connections should have to pay because an organization wants to basically tell them what are the best paths for their horse to get into the derby. It's of course up to CDI to determine whatever they want to in regards to their business, but as a horseplayer/fan I don't see how dictating where a filly must run to get into the derby is good for this game. How about the derby preps including Oaks points for fillies that race against the boys, and the Grade 1+2 filly races should have a low amount of derby points for the winner or ideas something like that, instead of just saying that they know the rules and they should race against the boys. I am not a sheets player but if I am not mistaken didn't Dreaming of Julia just run the fastest/best race in the last 15 years or so according to them? It is tough for me to comprehend how any horseplayer wouldn't want to see what she could do in the derby.

Fillies don't need points to get in the Oaks? Churchill Downs says they do but you say they don't.

Perhaps sometime, when the connections of a talented filly enter her in the Wood, or the SA Derby, they will have the Derby as an option, instead of automatically going for the Oaks.

You, also, bring up the prep race in the desert.
Don't blame it's importance on the new system.
It always had more graded stakes earnings than any race here, and for years has been a KY Derby stepping stone for the sheiks and Coolmore.
Wood Genuine Risk have earned her way into the Derby gate with her third place Wood finish?

No, she would not have.
However, a decision in Feb., or early March, by her connections to run in an additional prep race probably would have worked. 20 pts twice gets her there.

I take the point that the system is flawed now for fillies, though.
Points in the preps open to colts should count towards the Oaks.
Connections should be encouraged to put the best fillies up against the boys.
