Was wondering what Vic's take on this is......and maybe he did comment but I'm only a few pages in....this thread is must read material

Vic's take is it's happened to all of us. When I was the announcer at Gulfstream NBC brought Tom back to do the Sunshine Millions broadcast.
Larry called Zenyatta on ESPN here at Hollywood.
Of course it stings a little. We all take pride in the job we do. Have to be a professional and hope to become a big enough attaction that some day you're the guy they bring in.

When they brought Larry was he just doing NBC or was he on the Hollywood feed to?
If read this entire thread today and think that the bashing these guys are doing to the Tampa announcer is way over the top.........it's threads like this that can get a guy to lose his job.....not really cool in my opinion
I had a post deleted cuz I called a certain racing announcer a primadonna only because he reportedly threw a hissyfit when he learned that another announcer would be filling in for him when he was injured by a hockey puck.......and I trust my sources who told me this----
To have a 18 page thread on absolutely drilling this guy day in and day out is a sin.......nobody deserves to be buried like this guy is getting especially 2 moderators that's what suprises me the most
As a casino employee I wouldn't like if I saw my name on a well known poker forum(pace being biggest racing one I know of) With me getting bashed on a daily basis and showing replays of mistakes......also maybe the announcers kids read this and also may hurt them reading it.........
And also bashing mike battaglia is also uncalled for....like you said the guy has called 22 derbys works for NBC and makes the morning lines for CD...he must not be that bad!!!
By the way Vic in my opinion your the best caller in racing.....

And yes, Larry Collmus is really that good, especially compared to their regular guy. An analogy would be Derek Jeter versus a 10yo little leaguer, that's how wide the chasm is in ability between the regular CT announcer and Larry Collmus.

If Andy Beyer can write an article panning the guy for all his faults and he isn't fired, I'm pretty sure a thread at Pace Advantage isn't going to do it either.

I agree with you that this is not fair but the internet is full of cynical people who like to put other people down. (It must be great to be so perfect). But I don't agree with you that it could get anyone fired. No one in a position of power anywhere takes any of these internet critics seriously, and you shouldn't, either. They like to hear themselves whine but believe me, their criticism goes nowhere and means nothing.

Anyone who thinks they can do better than anyone mentioned in this thread can come to TDN and have a go.

Now that the Tampa Bay meet is over, don't you think it is time to put this continuous bashing to bed? It really is getting boring.
When Tampa opens again later this year I am sure that Richard Grunder will be back at his post. He is by most of us the well respected colorful voice of Tampa.

Thask
thanks for the upload. As you perhaps know that this is a horse loving nation. and everyone is excited on this day, including grandmas. So, not surprising that announcing is high quality in most metro races (like our major tracks).

Ridiculous argument. Nobody here is paid to be an announcer. There are probably guys criticizing Dwight Howard for his free throw shooting that can't shoot 40% themselves. That doesn't make them wrong.
