Rest in peace, Mr. Jackson.
A one-time longshoreman and police officer who put himself through University of California Berkeley's Boalt Hall school of law, Jackson became one of the best-known figures in American viticulture, as Kendall-Jackson became the best-selling Chardonnay in America for over two decades.

Longshoreman? I didn't know that.

I must raise a toast tonight to the man who lived the life I could only dream of having: owning a winery and race horses.

So sad he didn't live to see Curlin and Rachel's baby next year. He had great success last 5 years in our sport.

We've lost an icon, a true sportsman, a man of vision. His legacy is a great one, his loss for Thoroughbred Racing, a profound one.

You've given much, Mr. Jackson. Rest now. Peace be with you.

Mrs. Geary had three straight HOY titles with one horse, Forego. Mrs. Dupont has the untouchable record of five straight with one horse, Kelso.

Is Jess Jackson the only person to have had an ownership interest in the winner of 3 straight HOY titles, where more than one horse was involved? Looking at the list of HOY winners in the ARM (going back to 1926), it doesn't look like even Warren Wright with his 5 HOY titles in the 1940's managed 3 straight with different horses.

Thank you Mr. Jackson, for racing your top horses instead of rushing them off to the breeding shed. You provided a lot of fans with a lot of thrills. I know you rubbed some folks the wrong way but you had the ourage fo your convictions. I wish there were more like you.

RIP

Let's raise a glass of wine (KJ, of course) and toast one of the great owners in the sport.
