Everyone have a beer for the birthday boy.. Cigar is 21!
On monday Cigar will be 21! Crazy. Seemed like yesterday when he was on top of the horse racing world. That horse got me to fall in love with the game! I'm pretty positive if I wasn't for Cigar I wouldn't be that much of a fan of this game (the greatest sport in the world).. Ironically I was celebrating my 21st birthday when he was on his winning streak.
Happy Birthday Bud, i will have a beer for you tonight, and hope you have many more birthdays

Funny story. I was there the day he got beat at Del Mar and I was on one of those rolls where you're drinking shots and beers. A reporter came up to me while I was walking around and asked me about Cigar and I said "this horse is like Haley's Comet. Only one comes around every 50 years"
That's why he lost. It was my fault. I put the "eye" on him.

I made a post last year about the ages of horses. Its mindboggling.. I think Silver Charm is 17, Tiznow 15 or something like that. Doesn't bode well for us humans. We are getting really old.

It's a big weight off my shoulders now that I admitted what I did after all that time.

I was there as well. I remember thinking after the race, Where's that rube that was talking about Halley's Comet?

This last BC we went to the Ky Horse Park, & eventually wandered over to the Hall Of Champions where we saw the guys like Funny Cide & Cigar. Without encouragement, Cigar strolled into his paddock, put a show on for us by rolling in the dirt & then trotted over to the fence to see who was visiting him.
Much personality.

Happy Birthday Cigar

I was sick too when his winning streak was ended.
Some folks may not know, but I think Cigar was named after an aviation checkpoint and not the item you smoke.

Cigar was named not for the tobacco product, but for a navigational intersection for airplanes. Owner Allen Paulson was a major figure in American aviation and who had owned the Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation which manufactured the famous Gulfstream private business jets. He named many of his horses after the five letter long names given to intersections on aeronautical navigational charts.

You're a winner. Enjoy.
