Always thought so

https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...dents-smart-iq

quote: A whopping 43% of white students weren’t admitted on merit.

Ever wondered what it takes to get into Harvard? Stellar grades, impressive extracurriculars and based on a recently published study, having deep pockets and a parent who either works or went there. Those last two are pretty important for Harvard’s white students because only about 57% of them were admitted to the school based on merit.

Roughly three-quarters of these applicants would have been rejected if it weren’t for having rich or Harvard-connected parents or being an athlete.

So, you begrudge rich parents trying to buy their kids a quality education? What should they be buying them -- a third world education, perhaps?

And athletic merit has long been a welcomed and accepted American tradition for college entrance.

So are you implying that all of the non-white students were admitted on merit?

BTW does a Harvard education mean anything anymore? I mean 4 years of bachelor's then another 5 to 10 after that?
You're better off doing a trade apprenticeship and then in 5 plus years be making 100k+

If you look at Rafael Edward Cruz, his career might suggest it has not peaked yet. So just being subjective, and think when this Covid-19 is over another look at this question might be worthy of looking at.

It should all be based on merit. Everything else is BS. If 75% of Harvard winds up Asian some day, so be it.

AGAIN spoke like a true NON-BELIVER in free open education...I'll be, like the many complainers, that you have NEVER been in a college classroom

In the good book BLINK, Malcolm Gladwell tells a good story...There was an opening in a major Philharmonic orchestra (Berlin as I recall) for a French horn player...Invitaions went out to about 10-15 players, and to make it FAIR (as one of the applicants was a relative of the orchestra's conductor), they employed a curtain to hide the individuals at audition so that only the quality of the music was to be the criterion that choice would be based upon.

The testers chose, as the piece to be played, a very difficult one that would test the majority of the difficulties a typical French Horn player would need if chosen. The various players came and went until one finished and the conductor yelled for all auditions be cancelled as he had just witnessed the best rendition of this tune he had EVER HEARD.

The curtian came back and there was a WOMAN author behind that last rendition..How could that be? A woman does not have the wind to play that well.

She was hired at less than regular salary and over the next few years hounded, testing her wind capactiy repeatedly (she remained almost 2 standard deviations above normal) and generally made miserable since the powers that be could not accept a mere woman.

She eventually sued for the rightst to her job, using performance as her defense, and won...

You should feel bad about taking a minority's seat. You got in by your white privilege's. Or, you must feel that, only you are exempt, from the white privilege you spout.
