Preakness Wrap up
Looked like starter still holding the when the gate opened.
Inside was the place to be on dirt today.

Horse racing can be cruel and kind giving with one hand and taking with the other. War of Will got a beautiful ground saving trip but Owendale, who was probably best, went very wide got beat by a nose for second by a horse no one could pick. Thought I had the Exacta from the camera angle until they posted the results giving Everfast the Place. Worst of all, Everfast who beat me out is trained by the hated Dale Romans.
I guess WoW showed what he can do when he's not fouled by Max Sec. Owendale and WoW will be a good rematch in the Belmont.
Looks like Improbable is tailing off after all.

Improbable should sit out the summer and fall and target the Malibu and a 4yo campaign, but something tells me some genius from the WinStar think tank will remember that he's by City Zip and start to drool over the millions of dollars attached to the new NYRA Turf triple.

I hope WOW and Owendale take a lot of $ because Tacitus is winning the Belmont. The only sire who consistently gets Belmont winners is Tapit-sire of 3 of the last 5 Belmont winners. Only the 2 triple crown winners have interrupted Tapit's string of Belmont winners.

Curlin is fairly adept at siring Belmont contenders. Not as successful in the short term as Tapit (who also got Belmont placings via Frosted, Lani, and Hofburg), but Curlin got a winner in Palace Malice and picked up a couple of placings through Irish War Cry and Keen Ice.
That said, I have no idea if Curlin even has a classic prospect this year. ---Peter Pan winner Global Campaign

I think WoW looks like a perfect Belmont horse actually. He has great even-paced style for the race.

The jockey was interviewed after the race and didn't say anything about the starter.

“He was just not behaving good in the gate,” Velazquez told NBC’s Kenny Rice after the race. “He was just not settling well. He caught me against the wall and the gate. When the doors opened, I was kind of up from the start. I kind of jumped sideways and I had my feet out of the irons. I lost my balance and went off.”

Why was this horse, a maiden, in this race? Especially after running 14th by 15 lengths in the Derby?

You'll see Everfast in all the big races too now. He is a NW2.

Has some stamina in the extended family including the top turf horse Denon but he'd probably need a well planned ride a la Hansel to stay the distance. He'll be tough to settle in the early stages.

What about Game Winner, he has the worst trip in the KD and closed from 19 lengths behind while wide the whole trip. I do like Tacitus also, think he will run big in the Belmont.
