Are You Kidding?
This is the 2nd time in 2 days that a rider eased his/her mount before the wire. Yesterday it was Ricardo Chiappa in the 3rd, which may have allowed a 59:1 shot to get the win, by 3/4 length. I've yet to read about any explanation for that one.
In my opinion, riders should be suspended for ten days for such mistakes.
See the chart comments below from yesterday's 3rd.

In the UK, a rider error costing a win is a 21 day vacation, totally deserved here.

why would the bettors feel 'more screwed'? It wasn't the owners screw up, or the trainers, or the grooms, or the jockey agent...all of whom were innocent bystanders and lost out on their share of the 19k difference between first and second.
nobody wins in a situation like this...well except the connections and bettors who backed Zuerstgold

bert would beat all those old quarterbacks and half the current ones in a passing challenge!!
on the program page before the race they had pictures and lifetime stats of all the ladies with scr's 87 career wins well below the second lowest career total of 257 posted by Cheryl white.

I could see the jockeys not knowing where the finish line (especially if they were legends and may have never raced there).
I have difficulty on the live feed knowing when it is going to be over - as well as who is in the lead - that low slight angle head-on view is very deceptive for me.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the most famous jockey gaffe of all. By a Hall of Fame jockey at the height of his career. And in a much more important race.

For the life of me I can't comprehend you all felt compelled to bet this race?
I play a lot of races, but a bunch of outta shape over the hills ladies racing for charity
You reap what you sow, and the jocks don't serve your attitude
