If HISA doesn;t work, then it is time for racing to go away.
Time to outlaw the game.

The losers that run racing will never fix it.

Fix it or kill it.

I agree with most of what you are saying. I love this sport and I love horses in general. Hisa has all sorts of problems like mountainman said. The system is so corrupt that it will take years. We probably should have used the Hong Kong model.

This industry is a mess on every possible level.

The economics suck for tracks, owners, and most people involved in the sport.

The gambling is getting more difficult.

Handle is declining again.

I think there are bigger economic storm clouds ahead.

I see no one in the industry doing anything that makes me think it can be fixed, at least in the US.

I love this sport so much, but after 50 years, it’s getting harder and harder to justify all the time I put into it when ownership at a higher level makes little economic sense, anything I win gambling has zero impact on my life, and I see a slow moving doom ahead.

I definitely agree, when a horse goes down I turn my head and won't watch the replay, unless it was in a harness race as they seem sturdier than thoroughbreds and aren't going as fast and will often walk away unscathed.

Fiery, uncompromisingly forthright take.
Writer (I.C.) is known for that style.

his harmless satire is fun to read.

You don't need to endlessly opine about things you are unfamiliar with.

not sure what you object to

'fun' = opinion

the 'harmless satire' = eccentric sarcastic reference to how historical writers who speak out against the more powerful, or the ruling class, however manage to 'survive' w/out significant repercussions are often labeled/dismissed.

i can see how those comments can be construed as dumb, confusing, and annoying.

In truth the IC 60min piece was less of a satire, and more of 'hot take' journalism where he was truthful and uncensored.

maybe my relatively frequent posts w/ occasional eccentric stuff is simply annoying??

feel free to expound

Life is harsh, but it's still possible to have harmony. A friend of the Devil is a friend of mine.

Some of the biggest protestors have races with certain models. Makes you wonder... Fox guarding the hen house... exclusive opportunities for the elite club...

Some of the biggest trainers, and some of the biggest owners (many can bring winning ways with them) have races with certain models. Some medium guys are content with lighting up a mid-level racetrack to be a meet leader, and these guys have races with certain models, as well.

At what point do these medications become part of the Tapestry? Woven into the Fabric of the game like an invasive vine??...

Image is very important.
The love of the horses. Caring photos and human interest stories that show loving interactions. Women with success in the industry is important. Stories like Cody's Wish promote the game. Governing organization could promote a perception of integrity. Scapegoats/Villains could promote the perception of integrity. There is a portion of public perception who views horse racing as

All of this is dedicated to the performance enhancing issue and the image issue.*There are predatory extortion rackets like PETA who use the game like vampires. There are regular people who happen to think that the game is cruel to the horses. We have to produce the content and control the media for the perception of the public.

Haven't even gotten into highly-rebated CAW syndicates... the aging population of players...

I think HISA should rule that a horse cannot race for less than 20k purse more than 10 times. This will force tracks to raise some of their purses or close because they cannot find entrants. When connections are losing money, the suffering is felt most by the animals. They are forced to race lame or injected with disallowed chemicals or destroyed. If we cannot protect the horses, the game isn't worth saving.
