Philip Roth,RIP

Novelist Philip Roth best known for his novels Portnoy's Complaint,The Human Stain, and Goodbye Columbus among many , many others in a long and prolific career has passed away at age 83.My favorite of his was "The Human Stain", a cautionary tale about political correctness run amuck about a very light skinned black professor who passed for white all his life whose life falls apart over an innocent remark taken the wrong way, (It was made into an OK movie starring Anthony Hopkins)

Ive only read The Counterlife by Roth, back when it came out. Was very good. Been meaning to read other of his work including American Pastoral. Saw the movie Portnoys Complaint a long time ago, it was uh interesting. Very complex individual.

Portnoy's Complaint

I read Portnoy's Complaint when I was late in my teen years, more than 35 years ago. There are few books that have made me laugh out loud, but this one did. It was also very relatable, since it was also about a teenager/young man, as I was at the time.

It is quite risque/bawdy & deals with several sexual situations, so be forewarned.

One of the great writers. Farewell, Philip Roth!

Several? ... in almost every page, he was jacking off.

But, I always felt that Goodbye, Columbus was a much better novel, by far.

I agree w/you Steve, one of the greats in American lit.

RIP, Philip Roth
