G Melancon Ride in race 6 at EvD 6-5-10

Did anyone else see the ride by Gerard Melancon on the 9/5 favorite The Great Gypsy in race 6? It sure looked to me like he stiffed the horse. I will post a link to the video later if I can find it.

Maybe someone who knows more about race ridin' can tell me why I'm wrong.

no stick but he used the horse pretty hard first to get the lead, then to put away the eight. he might not have seen the winner who kinda pounced in the past couple of strides. my guess is he thought he had the race won and when the 2 loomed up late it was too late.

That's what I thought was a possible explanation. Melancon may have known he had the 8 horse beaten and didn't realize the 2 was about to run by.

Looks like he knew he had the 8 beat and never saw the winner coming. Hopefully he gets a fine or something, although that does nothing for those that bet the horse.

Your wrong. Horse has a problem that causes the horse to quit. I thought he ran a good race. Had the lead the whole way and only got beat 1/2 length.

Mineshaft, I respectfully disagree. In 5f races, the horse has had the lead on a contended pace at 4 furlongs eight times and won three of those races. So the horse does not always quit.

Melancon hand rode the horse the entire race. He never used the whip. I believe he could and should have won the race. At the very least, it was a mistake in judgement by not realizing longshot 2 horse was coming. Probably an honest mistake, but a mistake nonetheless. Given Melancon's past, I thought it was worth looking at.

I did not bet on the race, but if I had bet on that horse, I would be ticked.
