Arkansas Derby "Derby" Possibles
Arkansas Derby "Derby" Possibles
~
Still way early yet, but shapin' up to be a good one. All things considered, I think this will be the last Derby Trail race we'll see in quite some time. Some consider this Arkansas Derby the 2020 "Kentucky Derby" and I tend to agree. I hope they run the race .

Yeah, Sir Rick and probably a few others are going in the stakes race on Saturday (4/11) as a prep... that's why I queried on the other thread. That race was an Invitational last year, but this year they couldn't do that for obvious reasons. It's now a standard 3yo stakes seems meant as a prep for the AR Derby. It wouldn't be a surprise to Finnick the fierce or some also-rans from the feature AOC on Sat go as well, if they can make the draw.
The AR Derby one should be great rendition this year, all things considered. Nice lineup if they all go.

The Kentucky Derby Trial races as of right now on my spreadsheet I created with the following headings:
Date Race Distance Track WINNER Payout Beyer Jockey Trainer Sire Chart PPs (if available)
Some of the Trial races have been cancelled as you see on the screenshot. Hopefully as Blenheim said above, I would like to see the Arkansas Derby run

The top 3 finishers in the Stakes today get a guaranteed spot in the Arkansas Derby and their entrance fees covered. Sounding like with all of the tracks across the country closing down there are going to be a large number of horses who want to race but won't be getting into the Arkansas Derby.

Maybe they could run a couple of heats early in the card and bring 'em back for a final four hours later, like the Brown Jug.
(Relax, not serious)....but I wonder what the field-size limit is there. I hear Churchill has a brand-spankin' new gate that holds a social-distance-violating number of runners.

As you've probably noticed the AE horses in spots 13 and 14 usually scratch at OP, but not always.
Don't forget how they split up the Rebel last year into 2 divisions, didn't FG do that with a race this year too? That is also a possibility, div 1 and div 2

WHERE THE HECK is Azul Coast? That is the better of the Baffert horses ... I see him working and looking good. I can't help but think he might be pointed to Ar derby?

I believe I read somewhere that because they reduced the purse from $1,000,000 to $750,000 that they weren't going to allow them to split it up into 2 divisions this year. Which was one of the major reasons for having last weekend's top 3 getting guaranteed spots in the starting gate

could be but Cella just said they are not increasing the racing dates because the purse account is depleted. A nice 14 horse field will work

The purse reduction was announced roughly a month ago I believe.
