THE SPA AND A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

I've been here for the past week, and heard, on a local news station that NYRA will be making a major announcement on Wednesday, 08/13.

Not sure if this involves the racing season or any of the tracks,
anyone have "inside information" ?

My sources tell me that it is either

A) Kim Kardashian has a backside like a thoroughbred

or

B) Larry Collmus will be the next announcer for NYRA

Larry Collmus?

Doesn't he already have a job?

Or, is working for NYRA a "Career"?

Again, I was really hoping it would be Frank and he could just imitate Tom Durkin for the next 25 years.....(I'm not even kidding)

I think frank is a better color guy on handicapping shows then actual announcer. He goofs off a little too much for my liking. I think he is a fan and is genuine about his love of the game though

Everyone has their own tastes but I want to say the following:

No offense to Trevor but I can't stand to listen to a single race that he calls. He is on auto pilot all the time, his voice is annoying, he sounds like he just randomly says the same cliché phrases all day every day regardless of circumstance.

I like a personality. I like someone who can ad lib and go spontaneously with the flow. People attack Tom Durkin for some of the reasons that I mentioned. I respectfully say they are wrong. Why? There's a HUGE DIFFERENCE between being prepared , like Tom Durkin and someone who just spews the same clichés over and over again like Trevor.

Frank is funny. Frank is different. Not saying he's the best. Just saying I like his spunk. No knock against Larry but I really think John Imbriale would've been a better choice if they were going to go bland and solid.

In my country they say..."peri orekseos outhis logos". I like Trevor...and cringe every time I hear Durkin call a race. To each his own...

I ask you & all else the following:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0QqdYJeCts

If Trevor called this race, how much worse/anticlimactic/usual crap/unmemorable would this call have been? Would Trevor of had the testicular fortitude to call Tiznow the winner? Would he have had the patriotic emotion (and no offense to any one out there, the American accent to applicably call 'Tiznow winning for America')? Would Trevor of cared enough to prepare possible winning calls for all horses in the race to be able to make the amazingly prophetic statements that Durkin does? Or would've he said ohhhhh thaaaaaaas soooo clooos?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gAeTic_9Bo

Oh my god.... I could only imagine the stark contrast if Trevor called this super classic race and super classic race call.

Durkin captured the moment before the gate opened, he called Smarty's situation (not just his position and call but much more than that. He also wasn't a homer crying out zenyatta, zenyatta, zenyatta, blame, zenyatta lol)from the start to the wire succinctly, professionally and with respect for all parties involved.

There's 5 furlongs to go, just a minute from the wire and smarty Jones has to hold on to that lead for just one minute more.

Cadence picks up (not yelling like others do for no reason, I heard him through 120,000....as I was yelling myself at the 1/16 pole...)

And smarty Jones enters the stretch to the roar of 120,000!!!...

but birdstone is going to make him earn it today...

Its been 26 years, its just 1 furlong away....

Birdstone surges past, birsdtone wins the Belmont stakes.

Smarty Jones was brilliant but vanquished.

Would Trevor of delivered the same epic race call?

I'm sorry but I have not heard one singular call that Trevor has ever made that Tom would/could not have triplicated.

Thaskalos, forgive me for the passion but I love Tom Durkin and I have detested trevor's calls for my entire race life. It sounds like he's crying the entire race.

As my Greek mother would say :oh tom eneh exciting Aftos o alos mono clay

I prefer the races to be about the horses, not the announcers.
That is what the Improve is for.

Tom Durkin was the best, but he certainly has not been up to par this last season. I don't recall him making as many flubs as he has lately. Sadly it is time for him to retire before, heaven forbid, he becomes an embarrassment. I retired when in my mind I couldn't perform my job up to par . Tom Durkin,I'm sure, made his decision for the same reason. He will be missed.

I prefer the style of the guy Keeneland has now. He's crisp, clear, accurate and doesn't interject himself into the race.
