BO could have easily suspended the Jones Act which is the law "accomplishing" what you suggest. There is no reason that the use of this vessel should not have been implemented in the first weeks. None !

HE could have, but BP kept saying that oil spill was not that big. Obama should be taken to task for believing them.

I agree...and trust me, Obama is 100% at fault here for allowing it to go this far and turning down resources early on when he should have "taken charge" as he said they did from DAY 1. His comments were that they were in this from day 1...gee, I would not being saying that to loud based on what has gone on.

Obama is feeding on this disaster and will prolong it as long as possible. It's his vehicle to get Cap And Trade passed.

Can't see how he can get much of anything passed while this thing is going. People are too pissed, many at him. This is like his "Iran Hostage Crisis" -- it will probably still be leaking when he leaves office...

You bet he is! This and the VAT are high on his agenda. In fact, recently he actually tipped his hand in a speech he gave by essentially saying that 2011 would pose some real challenges to Americans, especially to those in Washington who are whining and complaining about the big deficit. He went on to say (in any as many words) that it would be time for such people to put their money where there mouth was.
To those of us who can read between the lines, he was alluding to the great tax debates which are right on the horizon ahead of us. The "whiners" are the Republicans and all true conservatives. 2011 is the year that he'll want to drive the final nails into the coffin of free enterprise, capitalism, the private sector and the economy by bludgeoning Americans with taxes -- all kinds of them -- even in the midst of this long, relentless, stubborn and soon-to-be unabated recession. So, in that speech he was setting up the Republicans to fail. If they oppose his taxes, then they'll be portrayed as hypocrites and wanting to destroy the economy because they will want to do nothing to ease the deficit pain. Mark my words. It's coming. I believe this was was his plan the day he took office, which is why this administration has gone on a drunken, irresponsible spending spree. (Remember the "urgent crisis" when he took office, folks?)

The only people pushing the VAT are doing it as way to replace the income tax. There are not very many of them and what few there are end up on TV from time to time.

No Robt. Obama's Vat will be in addition to the income tax! A few yrs ago, people we're pushing for vat as a substitute for the income tax, but Mr
57 states will want it in addition to the income tax.

Yup, you're right! The VAT wouldn't replace anything.
Obama's plan for destroying America's economy is the classic "having it both ways" strategy. The Dems have spent us into oblivion because of an "urgent crisis", but the Repugs will be demonized if they don't bail out America with tax hikes that would be billed by the Dems as simply offsetting their very necessary spending. The Dems will portray themselves as heroes for saving the country during its time of urgent need, while the Repugs will be portrayed
as evil, greedy, anti-American, pro-corporatist obstructionists for not wanting to get on board with legislating equally necessary taxes. This is how it'll go down.
