If you've never seen it, definitely worth a look:

Conway galloped horses at Tdn and old Randall Park as a young man. Judging from interviews, he considers that phase a central part of his identity, and the experience went well beyond casual involvement.

There are still $50 minimum windows at a lot of tracks. Let it Ride is such a great movie. The best horse racing scene is from this movie. The guy playing the mooch was actually a real mooch.

Do you find it at all troublesome that the groom so glorified in the film served as consultant, while the deceased trainer was so villified??

I do. Bigtime.

To me, it's two hours of Richard Dreyfuss mugging it up-with racing merely his backdrop.

That issue comes up in a lot of movies.

"Reversal of Fortune" is a great movie, truly a captivating way to spend 2 hours of your time, but it's no accident that Alan Dershowitz (played by the late Ron Silver) comes off so well in the movie while everyone else has shades of awfulness. He wrote the story.

Not full movies, but the racing scenes in "Wise Guys" with Devito and Piscopo and "Easy Money" with Dangerfield are top notch.

CJ:

Thanks for the heads up on the 1986 filmed The Longshot with Tim Conway and Harvey Korman. Very Funny!! Never before had heard of that one and it was very cool to watch. Did emit more than a few chuckles and laughs in the process. Now, I have another favorite along with "Let It Ride"! Thanks again..

That's freaking hilarious.
"C" talks about all the different characters through his eyes as a 9 year old....He mentions "Mush"..The guy was such a loser, the mutuel clerk would give him his tickets already torn up"....

The track announcer for this scene?

None other than a good friend of mine - Larry Lederman.

I spoke to him at the harness Q's at Gaitway Farm a couple of weeks ago. He couldn't announce this year; doctor's orders prohibit him from spending any considerable amount of time in heat and humidity.

For those who don't know Larry's condition, he's been battling a brain tumor and cardio problems for several years. He suffered a heart attack earlier this year and has been weak and tires easily.

He's been thrown a number of curveballs but keeps his spirits up and his sense of humor is as good as ever.

One of a kind, for sure.
