Nancy,

Thank you. I had heard he wouldn't go to the track for conditioning and they treated a limb for potential lameness.

Check out today's report:

Most have been treated with anti inflammatories or gastric issues!

It looks like Epicharis was given an injection of another pain reliever/anti-inflammatory NSAID, Ketoprofen.

Once again the vet's handwriting makes it impossible to read the diagnosis. Guessing the first word is muscle, last word inflammatory. Absolutely no clue what's in between them. (Naturally, the diagnosis is directly under the warning, Illegible Records Will Not Be Accepted.)

Thanks to a poster at Bloodhorse, the latest diagnosis has been deciphered as "Musculoskeletal inflammatory."

The trainer said yesterday that he plans to work the horse today, so we should know soon enough. If he skips today too, then I would think the chances of Epicharis scratching would be pretty high.

Shows what I know. As posted in another thread, Epicharis skipped training again this morning. According to a NYRA spokesman, he'll be treated with ice today and is still hoping to make the race. No comment from the trainer.

They're clearly just waiting it out. No one wants to injure a horse, nor does anyone want to bet on one with already so many existing questions. Since they made the trip, they'll give it to the last minute before scratching him.

Would anyone seriously take anything at this point under 10-1?

We still don't know that the trainer simply didn't want an extra day of NSAID.

I was seriously considering this horse.....

But now?

I guess if you want to take a largely unknown training schedule , combine it with an 11 week layoff and a trip half way around the world, and now a possibility of being "lame" all at the low, low price of 4/1 ?

Be my guest.

I'll let him beat me.

Just watching the Matt B show on DRF & he's been treated with Bute & as mentioned before has lameness. No one is saying how bad the lameness is. It could be just a little sore of it could be a career ender. At any rate, this coupled with a 11 week lay off makes him a toss for me. If he runs, I'd expect him to contribute to the early pace for a 1/2 mile or 6 furlongs and then drop out.
It's too bad because he has speed & can be rated. If he were dead fit, a long dirt route would suit him very well & this is not a star studded field. The connections have spent a lot of time & money to get here & are likely to be tempted to run even if he's not 100%. I wouldn't blame them, but 90% is probably not going to get the money.

"I guess (it's) in the hoof area, but I don't want to get into the specifics on it, because I'm not the right person to do that. But it's not an abscess," Panza said. "They've been working on it with ice and just helping the natural (process). He was off a couple days ago and that happens occasionally.

He was walking sound yesterday and continues to walk sound today. They're pretty confident he's OK, but it's something you deal with. This happens to be a grade 1 race and a very important horse, so this becomes a bigger issue."

Wow, I thought this was drama before, this sure ups the Stakes. My gut tells me this is strategic misdirection intended to confuse the other trainers and jockeys.

Lookin' forward to the Belmont Stakes!

Plus throw in the fact that his best Timeform figure is lower than the rest of the field, I wouldn't bet him at 4-1 even if he hadn't missed training.
