Unhappy In Memory Of Thread

Rather than start a thread for all those fine horses we new who have died on or off the track .
I thought I'd start one one where we can share and reflect .

Whether they are stakes placed or claimers , I'm sure we all have a place in our hearts and some thoughtful words to remember them .

This past week was rough .

Rockport Harbor died of complications of laminitis . Many of us have memories of his young career . I know Rick Porter and those who have been around him are deeply saddened . RIP!!!

We also lost the young filly Nipissing who suffered a fatal injury in the Who Where stakes at Woodbine . A three year old filly who had a lot of promise ,
she will be missed ! RIP ! .

My grandfather, David P. Holloway claimed a horse in Florida $25,000. That horse was Bet On Sunshine, and he is why I'm in love with racing. This blue collar champion made a name for himself by picking up multiple non-graded stakes wins in the KY circuit of Tufway, Ellis, Churchill Downs and Keeneland, as well as several notable victories at Arlington. The Bet Big gelding loved to come from behind from way off the pace in Zenyatta-type fashion, and his consistency was remarkable. Three-time winner of the Arlington Sprint Handicap, two-time winner of the Pheonix at Keeneland, two-time winner of the Aristides, Holiday Cheer, Marfa and Don Bernhardt stakes. He made his way to the Breeders' Cup Sprint three times, placing 3rd twice. His final victory came at 10 years of age, when he romped by 7 and 1/4 lengths over a sloppy track in a $100k AOC at CD. He is trainer Paul J. Mcgee's most accomplished horse ever according to Equibase.com. He attracted a wide range of talented jocks over his 7 years of racing, from Pat Day to Francisco Torres to Calvin Borel. He spent his retirement in relaxation at Hermitage farm in Louisville, KY. 1992-2012

The horse was bumped after the start and was traveling poorly the entire backstretch before breaking down on the far turn. Too bad JV didnt pull her up when he felt she wasnt moving well.

Wynndotcomma.... He was euthanized two weeks after winning the 2004 Swale stakes after breaking down during a routine gallop. He won 6 of 8 career starts and the win in the Swale gave Edgar Prado his 5000th win. I'll go to the grave thinking about that horse.

Bad spill after the opener as Heading to Toga breaks down and will be euthanized. Jockey Jose Espinoza is down. Maragh also unseated.

RIP Heading To Toga

So many here follow Toga so we know about the 9th race .It didn't
turn out well for these two .

RIP Sarava's Dancer and Chris Royal

I imagine this will be brought up at tomorrows Equine Safety Committee
meeting . The turf seems fine to me . Some don't agree , we'll see .

It's one thing to lose a bet. It's a bad feeling when the horse you bet on dies in the process of making you a buck because they are beautiful. I bet Sarava's Dancer. My condolences to the horse and everyone associated with him.
