They may know a lot, but it’s definitely not fan-friendly

Peter deserves one of those high level track announcer jobs, MNR should bend over backward to make him happy. Wonder how long John Imbriale will continue to be NYRA's announcer, isn't he in his late 60s?

I

could be wrong, but I think John has tried to retire a few times and they keep calling him back. Two guys I wouldn't mind calling races when John formally retires is Kurt Becker From Keenland. Very smooth race caller or Travis Stone who calls the races at Churchill.

Kurt Becker does NASCAR, only wants to do Keeneland. Was the full-time announcer at Hawthorne and Arlington then Churchill before concentrating on the race cars. Travis Stone has already done NYRA as a back-up and was at one time the Saratoga morning line odds maker.

Imbriale retired in 2005 but came back a couple of years later. I'm not a New Yorker, so I wasn't familiar with him until internet streaming came around. But it seems like he's done lots of different things for NYRA, all of them extremely well. I think he's doing great as their announcer, and his next retirement should be whenever he wants it and not a day sooner.

But when that time comes, it's gotta be Travis, another guy who does lots of things very well. Really enjoyed him on Talking Horses at the end of the Saratoga meet.

Oh my…..I never made the connection? I’ve listened to him for years on MRN and didn’t realize it was the same guy…….

Kurt also still announces the harness races on the Illinois fair circuit at DuQuoin and Springfield.

Interesting that a guy calls horses and cars. I listen to MRN all the time, but I don't bet Keenland.

Travis has been a success pretty much from the start of his career. Guy's been at Churchill for six years and is still in his 30s. He has the classic announcer's voice and a great delivery. Obviously a lot of guys discussed in this thread are really talented (Peter Berry included, hope to hear you back soon) but Stone will hopefully be calling big races for decades to come.

Well said. I miss Nancy as well.

It just hit me that TWO(2) Mnr- talents have gone off the grid and and neither has been photographed holding a recent newspaper.

I swear on the sainted name of Soto, guys, I'm not THAT hard to work with.

Isn't that his dad Carl Becker?
