Mahoning Valley: Best of Ohio Day

Five $100,000 Stakes Races, each for Ohio Breds, highlighted by track record holder ALTISSIMO, who tries to defend his title in the Best of Ohio Sprint, as well as FOREWARNED, who won the Best of Ohio Endurance last year.

An all Stakes Pick 5 with a 15% takeout makes today's card even more enticing. Mahoning Valley is allowing a limited amount of fans to attend live racing during the Meet.

One of my tickets will be:

RACE 6: ,
RACE 7:
RACE 8: ,
RACE 9: ,,,,
RACE 10: ,,,

Good Luck!
RR

I looks like MVR is allowing a limited number of fans to wager on their races also. LOL.

For the first week of MVR's meet daily handle is down over 25% (and I did not include last Saturday's numbers as they were skewed because the Best of Ohio card is being run one week later this year)

Every other track I follow is showing double digit increases in handle.

Not a good start.

1.1 million total bet on a nice card. Not bad on a Saturday competing against Belmont, Churchill, etc., not to mention College Football and that other big event that ends Tuesday.

Handle was up $50k this for this years card but there were 10 races vs only 8 on last years card. Still nothing to be happy about as this pandemic has really boosted the handle at practically every horse track but MVR. YTD is now down 19% here.

Granted the 1st week of MVR's meet was ho-hum, filled with many 6 and 7 horse fields. Tuesday's card has an average of 9 horses per race. More horses will arrive as Finger Lakes is finished and Indiana Downs has about 2 more weeks. Total handle on 11-2 was 1.1 million again. Mountaineer which has done a fine job this meet with full fields did 1.3 million. Each track has their niche and hard-core followers. Obvious distractions are affecting everyday routines. Stay positive and enjoy these lower level equine athletes.
