All of the comments make sense. Though I am in favor of removing race day medication, BC Day is not the right time.

I like his idea of a four track swing with one each to Cali, Kentucky, & NY, and then one other different track each time. In some ways, that's what the USGA is now doing with the US Open in golf, a regular rotation of courses with some wildcards.

I'm not sure I agree with him on the Lasix issue. He makes a good point that debuting the ban on BC day might be a big mistake, but overall, horses do just fine everywhere else in the world without Lasix.
A reasonable compromise would be to eventually ban Lasix in Graded Stakes so we don't have chronic bleeders going to the breeding shed, but allow it in other races so otherwise healthy horses could earn back their investment.
If that causes a problem for some owners because of the risk of purchasing a bleeder, then perhaps owners need to re-evaluate how much they are willing to pay for horses. They should risk adjust the prices.
The problem with Lasix is that almost every handicapper I know that has studied it believes it's a performance enhancer. I've also repeatedly been told that it's a great masking agent for the types of illegal drugs that everyone agrees should be banned.

Repole donated an Uncle Mo halter for a fund-raising auction that I was supporting in Saratoga a few weeks ago, and we talked briefly about the Lasix issue while picking up the halter.
I think he is exactly right about both issues raised here- Breeders' Cup and Lasix.
I do not know him beyond that brief conversation, but that first impression was certainly a positive one. He is a likable guy, spot on concerning these two particular issues, and I wish him lots of continued success...
