Dissappointing Gold Cup Day Program...
In theory should had been a racing fiesta, in practice it will be a pretty poor day since despite the $2.3M offered in the sequence of the five graded races tomorrow at Belmont, the average number of betting interests in them is only 6.3 !
It seems that in today's racing nobody wants to run his horses against any significant competition, dodging rivals as much as possible and setting aside any sportsmanship or romanticism, which traditionally have been the driving forces of the game...
What a disappointment!

I was actually about to start a similar thread.
Very disappointing fields imo. Nothing super about it, apart from it being five grade one races on paper.

Flower Bowl and Vosburgh should be competitive and bettable, but not the others.

A couple of the stakes have small fields and may not be bettable (WPS), but there's some sporting interest in all of them because some of the major players for the BC are running. You never know who is going to step up and make themself into a major contender. I always enjoy days like this.

Yeah, I remember the time that they had 40 horses enter all the big races. What's more, all of them were multiple G1 winners internationally and had earned millions upon millions-each. Despite some horses having to start in the parking lot and the infield, it was WAY better, y'know?
On a serious note, if you want dissapointing, check out the 2006 "Super" Saturday. That day had a grand average of 5.2 betting interests per race, including a 4 horse whopper in the JCGC.

Ralf, I am going to be there (as every day) since Belmont is my home track but frankly if I had to drive an hour or more I would never consider it... I am afraid the card simply does not worth of it.... Anyhow, have a nice and safe trip...

My thoughts exactly. I was gung-ho on going until I saw the entries. Not worth going up when I can be @ Monmouth in 5 minutes. I didn't look @ the history and saw the comment re. 2006, but I think we largely have Parx to thank for the short fields. Look at the PA Derby and Cotillion- two rich, age restricted races run too late in the year. Those 3YO s/b taking on elders now. Slots suck.

The Breeders Cup and the owners/trainers love affair with it have caused, what once were premier races everyone looked forward to, these same races to become an afterthought.
It's a damn shame.

Maryland Million missing...
Which brings me to the DRF has mysteriously not entered the PP's for Marylands big day . Laurel is not in the form for tomorrow,Maryland Million
suspiciosly missing from the eastern edition of DRF and beats the hell out of Belmonts over hyped (as usual) card.

If I were you, I'd be glad that Delta Lover beat me to it, and I would not announce that I were about to start such a thread.
I'd think, "Whew! Better him than me."

There are other ways to get those past performances. You understand this, right?
Clearly, you have a computer (for better or worse), and can employ it to download and print past performances for Laurel.

You guys are coming up from Maryland and I'm heading down there...on the web. Good card at Laurel, good one at Hoosier. I bought a form, which I only do on big race days, and after looking over "Super' Saturday, I will not waste much time looking at the card. Maybe I'll bump into you at Woodbine - I'm there, too.
Maybe after they get the new, big purses in place, they will get that average up to 6.5.

Strange decision - DRF not the brightest bunch around. I bought a Form and had to buy extra PPS to get the card. Nice touch, DRF. Nice wy to promote the game - ignore big race days. Can't be a number of pages deal - not that many entered at Belmont to take up too many pages!
