It's always something on opening day!
At least the escalator worked.
I had Castellano in the feature. 21/1 so I can't complain.
Walked out a winner.
Got a break with the weather.

I thought Frank Mirahmadi, the new race caller, did a good job.
They took the picnic tables out of the paddock area, much, much better without them.
Only thing I noticed about the new one price admission so far was the small clubhouse apron area was crowded. Will reserve final judgement until after a few weeks.
Said hello the Jim, the old timer who sits at the bottom of the outside escalator. I thought he might lose his job since he doesn't have to check the clubhouse hand stamps anymore. He said he is there to watch for falls, there were 11 last year.

All in all a nice day.
See you at the cashing window.

The head on shot of the start of mile races out
of the Wilson chute end too soon.
The key part to see head on is when they cross
the gap and get to the inside rail, but the camera
leaves before that.

improve my handicapping, make less rain and heat, and the jockey caricature/cartoon faces for Luis Saez are too fat this year

There is way too much time between races. 34 minutes is not necessary. It makes the day an eternity. The crowds at the stakes races the last two days have been very light. Can’t make a dinner reservation til 8:00

I also don’t know the point of using Gary Stevens, who can’t put two sentences together, and Tom Amoss, who don’t follow NY racing during the other 44 weeks out of the year, on the broadcast.

If nothing else, it was a fun way to get ready for the meet. DRF should bring that back.
Not the same I know but NYRA produce a media guide which has some good info

I might trim a few of the bushes that block you from seeing the race live and especially in the replays.

Was Gary Stevens always like this? I feel like he's off his game this year, is frequently failing to form sentences.

My guy lawn guy Juan is making a better living than I ever did doing lawns and trimming bushes in my neighborhood. If I can get him to open a few days in his calendar for Saratoga, I'll let you know, but he's rolling in dough. I don't think he needs the extra work. He'll probably be vacationing in Del Mar on the beach with his family.

Never was an Imbriale fan so, for me, it's an improvement.

Regarding Gary Stevens , could be the results of age taking its toll, from head injuries from spills , or even sitting in the hot box for years. Listening to him is both a combination of laughter and sadness. More of the Mig would be a good thing .
