davew:
I think that #2 ended up as the post time favorite in Race 5 by about $2,000. If so, the scratch of #14 in race 5 would have landed me on #2 and given me the early pick 4 for $1.
Is this valid reasoning? Thanks.

---I disagree as #14 was an EARLY scratch.
I don't think JolyB is entitled.

I copied this from Twin Spires results for AQ Race 5
$0.50 Pick-4 8/2/5/2,13-15 4 of 4 $86.37
As I read those results, if you had 2,13,14 or 15 in the last leg, you were awarded the winner. NYRA pays that player who bought his ticket before scratches were announced, while you still could purchase that combo.

the rule
8. In the event of scratches, the affected horse(s) will be replaced by the Post Time Favorite. Should one of those selections involve any entry, you will receive replacement of the Post Time Favorite ONLY if all runners associated with that entry are scratched. Otherwise, you will have action with the other horses associated with that entry that DO run. Equibase and/or Daily Racing Form results chart payout numbers shall serve as the basis for determining winning tickets.
I have always allowed scratched horses to be included.
JolyB posted their entry last night, before scratches known.
I would have to check, but this year there have been entries made including a scratched horse after early scratches known (either by mistake - or sometimes possibly intentionally in a contentious maiden race with first timers) and they have always gone to the post time favorite.
