.........................

the link is a really great article about Ragozin written 43 years ago

am I remembering this right? - I seem to remember somebody writing that Ragozin somehow took into account the wind.

thinking about him made me remember something else but I can't remember where it came from

the bounce theory

I think it pertained mostly to claimers and low level allowance horses

it was something like this as I recall:

after a horse ran 2 good races he was due to bounce and have a bad race

I appreciate that he was a big reason why we have gone for 10-15 starts a year to 5!

sad for his family that he passed away, definitely changed the game.

RIP

Sorry to hear it. Mr. Ragozin certainly changed the way I looked at things. Spacing and effort became a significant handicapping factor for me after reading his book and that was in the latter part of a decade of profitable play using my own Beyer-style figures, I was an OG learning some new tricks at that point. That's saying a lot. His graphing and scale were something I strongly gravitated to going forward. IMO it's truly a superior format regardless of which type of performance ratings you use. He'll be remembered as one of the legends.

Agree.

If I look up the the word Maverick in the dictionary... I half expect to see his picture.

Rest in Peace Mr. Ragozin.

R.I.P. Mr. Ragozin! A true innovator in the game of Horse Racing. I have his book "The Odds Must Be Crazy" and I now have to make it a priority to read it.
