Ohtani

Dodgers gave him 750 million
If some oldtimers like Ruth, Musial, Mantle Dimaggio just to name a few
were playing today, I wonder what they would make?

A rough estimate of dollars to WAR (2022 season) might equate to $5.4 million per 1 WAR...

https://boardroom.tv/mlb-free-agency-2022-war-value/

Coming off his best WAR season of 1923 (per FanGraphs) of 14.7, if Ruth were to somehow duplicate that in today's game at then age 28, he would earn approximately $79 million per yr.

Last season, Ohtani earned 12.1 WAR (6.5 batting, 5.6 pitching).

Bypassing Bonds, Mays is third in career WAR. His 1965 season (10.7 WAR) would produce almost $58 million per year.

The Ohtani contract has nothing to do with WAR. It has more to do with sponsorship money from Japan for the Dodgers.

Of course, but that's irrelevant to the OP's question, which was addressed by using the rough estimate of $ to WAR for the top 25 players today at each position provided in the link, for players of yesteryear.
