Light exotic payoffs at Tampa Saturday
The late pick 4 and last two pick 3s paid well below what the theoretical parlay would. This is unusual. Differences are usually in the other direction.
9th race winner: # 11, 4.60-1
10th race winner: # 10, 5.40-1
11th race winner: # 10, 15.40-1
12th race winner: # 6, 5.20-1
50 cent theoretical parlay pays $1822. Actual payout was $909.
The pick 3s are also short by 1/3 to 1/2.
Thoughts? Just a fluke, or something more?
The Pick 5 on races 7 - 11 paid $12,556 for 50 cents versus 4920 for the parlay. That's more typical.

The morning line was the culprit.
R10)....3-1
R11)....6-1
R12)....3-1
Factor in "name" trainers{Brown/Casse/Mott}a bit also.

Looks like an unfortunately short payout...the pick 4's ending in races 11 & 12 had identical odds of all winners, but the one ending in race 11 paid more than double the payout of the 12th.

Thanks for the responses, taxicab and SG4.
The 8th race winner was 8-1 ML and the 12th race winner was 3-1 ML, so that does provide some explanation. Nonetheless, 2173 vs 909 for exactly the same odds is a large discrepancy.

i have long felt there has been skimming off the top in the exotics at various tracks. this was brought to my attention by one of mike pizzolla's long time associates,(DAN SERRA). he covered all the bases in handicapping, such as making his own grass figures, personally going to the track and supposedly measuring the depth of the track surface.
anyway if you look at the tracks payouts at minor league tracks in exactas it is evident there is monkey business going on.

I have some apprehension with the multi-race sequences, as well as wonder whether information (such as uncovered horses in 'jackpot' sequences) are available to certain parties. Don't know if that is founded in reality or not.
I think in this case, you had players betting the morning line and trainers in the Pick-4, and then when we got closer to the race(s) other horses heated up on the board and these horses were a little colder on the board. Sometimes 'cold' horses still win.

Or sharp handicapping.
