Musk aims for Mars colony within 10 years
Musk is aiming for a colony on Mars
He wants space travel common before Earth becomes too hot for life in 500 million years.

Man, he could have given us a heads up. He's cutting it too close to get ready.
It would be funny if we land and find Martians getting ready to colonize EARTH before Mars gets to cold to live on.

Just like space is uninhabitable, and yet there are people inhabiting the international space station ...

I guess the $350 mil or so a year for emission credits isn't enough?

it might just be a 'model' to colonize for mining of rare metals or storage of radioactive stuff.
there is not enough lithium on earth for 'green new deal' needs and current mining methods are ecologically worse than petroleum extraction
and then in about 500 million years, extinction is eminent

That's what they said about sailing ships, covered wagons. You gotta start somewhere or you have already finished your journey.

I don't consider myself a Musk fan, but he spoke the other day, and his ideas I can only describe as visionary. He's moved our dormant space program ahead about fifty years in only five. You gotta love it when he told Bernie Sanders that he didn't realize that Bernie was still alive. He's one funny billionaire.
