Anyone remember this day in 1977 at DelMar.

I was there, wondering if anyone else remembers---

July 7th 1977, RACE 7 AT Del Mar.
A 7 horse field with the seven horse having a high morning line, but for obvious reasons was bet down to favoritism or very close.

Lots of win money on this hunch bet.
Did the horse win? (I hope you did not need to ask) he or she finished 7th.

7/7/77. I was at Ak-Sar-Ben. Unique Bird was # 7 in the first race. I thought he had a chance, and looking at the possible double payoffs, the 7-7 double was paying less than the 7-9 double even though #9, in the second race, Malefic, was an odds-on favorite and #7 was a hopeless longshot. I bought a $10 double 7-9. Unique Bird won at 20-1 (lots of mumbling in the crowd about #7 after that race) and Malefic won too. I was on top of the world.

I was at my friend's house in Upstate NY that afternoon. That's all his grandfather could talk about. How many tracks would have the 7 horse in each race the betting favorite.
