Obviously he'll be fine if some horse wins by 4 lengths or something. But if it's a blanket finish or some horse is coming up the inside or whatever, it may turn out to be "cover your ears".

Did you see Willie Mays play for the Mets? He wasn't in-his-prime Mays, but he still was Willie Mays.

Odd you brought that up, as I use Willie as an example of a star athlete hanging on too long. At least Willie hitting .200 with no power wasn't as sad as the Ali-Holmes fight.

Home town bias. Vic rescued us Hollywood Park fans from decades of sub standard announcing. SoCal had a hoist of great announcers, calling all the sports except Hollywood Park. I left SoCal in 2011. My favorite all time announcer is Trevor, he has probably stayed at it a little too long.

Can't wait!
Durkin is one of my all-time favourites so it is nice to hear an old but familiar voice once again calling the races
I hope he remembers how to get to Belmont Park

Durkin is 72 but Vic is 65, so your "Vic is in his prime and Durkin is old" argument doesn't work. If there's some young guy who needs a shot, then make the case for that person.

Where did I call Durkin old? Stop making things up. I said Durkin was retired for 10 years. The longer you are away from something and the older you are
the harder it is to get back in the groove.

His greatest success, the damn GF Grill.
He made 200 million. He flat out admits it.
He lives near me just outside of Houston. He is very big here

I had to look Leonard up and my thoughts were correct, he did not win any fights at an old age, his last win was at 33.
Foreman did do well, he had a few things in his favor, he was a big puncher
and strength is the last thing to go. He never had much of nor relied on hand speed and reflexes, that father time quickly takes away. He also had a solid chin another plus that hangs around for a good while. One must admit the 90's where he made his comeback did not have near the talent of the 70's where George spent his prime. He also did lose to Morrison and Holyfield during his comeback while beating glass jawed Cooney and Moorer.
How you are comparing boxers to a track announcer is interesting.

With you on that, he's the best ever. Just replying to the poster who wanted youthful Stauffer to get a shot instead.
